Function requirements, general
- Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) activated
On vehicles with CODE FY1 (theft protection package) the electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) (N73) transmits the status of the central locking (CL) via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) (N10/1) and anti-theft system control unit (ATA) (N26/6).
On vehicles with CODE FZ5 (Anti-theft alarm system) the electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) transmits the status of the central locking (CL) via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM). The signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) takes over the master function for the ATA.
ATA alarm triggering, general
If one of the alarm inputs of the activated ATA [EDW] exits its non-actuated state, an alarm is triggered.
Action in event of undervoltage:
- The operating voltage range of the ATA is defined from 8 to 16 V. No more visual or acoustic alarms can be output if the voltage drops to 8 V.
The ATA [EDW] alarm triggering function comprises the following partial functions:

Function sequence for alarm triggering by opening a door, tailgate or engine hood
The signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) triggers an alarm as soon as one of the following switches or one of the following actuators exits the non-actuated state:
- Left front door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/3s1) in left front door central locking actuator (M14/3)
- Right front door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/4s1) in right front door central locking actuator (M14/4)
- Liftgate rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/7s1) in opening assist (M14/7) on vehicles with CODE W65 (liftgate)
- Left mechanical sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/40s1) in left mechanical sliding door central locking actuator (M14/40) on vehicles with CODE T19 (Left sliding door)
- Right mechanical sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/41s1) in right mechanical sliding door central locking actuator (M14/41)
- Left sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/42s1) in left electric sliding door central locking actuator (M14/42) on vehicles with CODE T56 (Electrical actuation for left sliding door)
- Right sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch (M14/43s1) n right electric sliding door central locking actuator (M14/43) on vehicles with CODE T55 (Electrical actuation for right sliding door)
- Rotary tumbler microswitch for separately opening rear window (M14/46s1) in opening assist for separately opening rear window (M14/46) on vehicles with CODE W64 (Separately opening rear window)
- Liftgate rotary tumbler microswitch with electrical actuation (M14/47s1) in liftgate opening assist with electrical actuation (M14/47) on vehicles with CODE W68 (EASY-PACK liftgate)
- Right rear-end door rotary tumbler switch (S49/6) on vehicles with CODE W50 (Two-wing rear-end door, 180 degrees without window) or CODE W54 (Two-wing rear-end doors, opening to sidewall)
- Right rear-end door rotary tumbler switch (S49/7) on vehicles with CODE W50 (Two-wing rear-end door, 180 degrees without window) or CODE W54 (Two-wing rear-end doors, opening to sidewall)
- Engine hood switch (S62/41)
The left front door control unit (N69/3) reads in the status of the left front door rotary tumbler microswitch and transmits it via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM). The right front door control unit (N69/4) reads in the status of the right front door rotary tumbler microswitch and transmits it via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM).
On vehicles with CODE T56 (Electrical actuation for left sliding door) the left sliding door control unit (E-LSTL) (N69/7) directly reads in the status of the left sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch and transmits it to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) via the interior CAN.
On vehicles with CODE T55 (Electrical actuation for right sliding door) the right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) (N69/6) directly reads in the status of the right sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch and transmits it to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) via the interior CAN.
On vehicles with CODE W68 (EASY-PACK liftgate) the right sliding door control unit (E-LSTR) directly reads in the status of the liftgate rotary tumbler microswitch with electrical actuation and transmit it via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM).
The signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) directly reads in the status of the following microswitches:
- Left manual sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch
- Right manual sliding door rotary tumbler microswitch
- Liftgate rotary tumbler microswitch on vehicles with CODE W65 (liftgate)
- Rotary tumbler microswitch for separately opening rear window on vehicles with CODE W64 (Separately opening rear window)
- Right rear-end door rotary tumbler microswitch on vehicles with CODE W50 (Two-wing rear-end door, 180 degrees without window) or CODE W54 (Two-wing rear-end doors, opening to sidewall)
- Left rear-end door rotary tumbler microswitch on vehicles with CODE W50 (Two-wing rear-end door, 180 degrees without window) or CODE W54 (Two-wing rear-end doors, opening to sidewall)
- Engine hood switch
The signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) evaluates the status of all alarm inputs.
To trigger a new alarm, the corresponding switch must first change to the non-actuated state. After a non-actuated state of 10 s an alarm can be reactuated by the same switch, if an acoustic alarm is not present.
If a locked vehicle is unlocked with the emergency key and the door is opened, the ATA [EDW] triggers an alarm.

If the inclination sensor integrated into the anti-theft alarm system control unit (ATA) recognizes an alarm-relevant change of inclination, an alarm is output. For this purpose the anti-theft system control unit (ATA) transmits the signal to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) via the interior CAN.
Actuation criterion:
- Changing of the vehicle inclination (on the horizontal axes) to approx. ≥ 1.2°
Alarm is triggered before a wheel looses ground contact when lifting the vehicle.

If a movement in the vehicle interior is recognized and considered to be alarm-relevant, an alarm is output. The anti-theft system control unit (ATA) transmits the signal to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) via the interior CAN.
Function sequence for alarm actuation by communication loss to alarm siren (with CODE FY1 (theft protection package))
The alarm siren with additional battery (H3/1) is checked cyclically approx. every 600 ms and actuated by the anti-theft system control unit (ATA) via the alarm system LIN (LIN B14). If a reply to this request is not received within t = 1 s by the alarm siren with additional battery (no communication), the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) and the alarm siren with additional battery trigger an alarm. If the alarm siren with additional battery detects a loss of supply voltage, it also automatically emits an acoustic alarm.
In the event of an alarm the anti-theft system control unit (ATA) transmits the signal to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) via the interior CAN.
Function sequence for alarm output
Visual alarm output
When ATA alarm is actuated, the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) activates the "hazard warning flasher" function. All turn signals are actuated synchronously on the vehicle.

Moreover, the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) switches on the interior illumination.

Acoustic alarm output
The acoustic alarm is output on vehicles with CODE FY1 (theft protection package) by actuating the alarm siren with additional battery and on vehicles with CODE FZ5 (Anti-theft alarm system) by actuating the left horn (H2/1).
The alarm siren with additional battery is actuated by the anti-theft system control unit (ATA) via alarm system LIN. In the event of an alarm the anti-theft system control unit (ATA) transmits the signal to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) via the interior CAN.
The left horn is actuated by the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM) via the horn relay (K40/10kJ).
An alarm is only repeated if a new alarm event is registered after the active acoustic alarm was terminated. Three or ten alarms can be output during an arming cycle depending on the national version.
The acoustic alarm is activated for 30 s and the optical alarm for 300 s.
Interruption conditions: When the central locking (CL) is opened with the transmitter key or the transmitter key is inserted into the electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) the alarm output is interrupted. The electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) transmits the status of the CL and the circuit status of circuit 15 to via the interior CAN to the signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (SAM), which then terminates the active alarm.
