| Remove/install | |||
| 1 | Remove top liftgate trim. | AR72.20-P-6631FRX | |
| 2 | Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m). | ||
| 3 | Disconnect corresponding electrical connector (2) from liftgate control unit (N121/1). | ||
| 4 | Expose electric line. | ||
| 5 | Release grommet (3) from liftgate (1). | ||
| 6 | Guide electric line out of the duct. | ||
| 7 | Secure liftgate (1) with support. | Fig 2 | |
| 8 | Lift retainer on bottom ball head (5) with a suitable screwdriver and remove liftgate control drive unit (M51/4, M51/5) from the D-pillar. | Do not remove retainer from bottom ball head (5). Otherwise, the preload of the bottom retainer may be lost. |

| 9 | Lift retainer on top ball head (4) with a suitable screwdriver, take liftgate control drive unit (M51/4, M51/5) off the liftgate (1) and remove. | Do not remove retainer from top ball head (4). Otherwise, the preload of the top retainer may be lost. |

| 10 | Install in the reverse order. | ||
| 11 | Normalize liftgate control drive unit (M51/4, M51/5) with vehicle diagnosis system. | When installing new liftgate control drive unit (M51/4, M51/5). | |
