DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Clean area around cap of brake fluid reservoir. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
2 Remove cap of brake fluid reservoir and extract some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the brake fluid reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.  
3 Remove left or right front wheel and tire assembly.   AR40.10-P-1102ME
4 Release and disconnect front right brake wear sensor (S10/2) from coupling housing (3). Only when removing the brake caliper (1) on the right side of the vehicle.  
5 Remove screw (2) at coupling housing (3). Only when removing the brake caliper (1) on the right side of the vehicle.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, brake pad contact sensor to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1004-10L 
6 Remove coupling housing (3) together with electrical line and place to one side. Only when removing the brake caliper (1) on the right side of the vehicle.  
7 Unscrew union nut of brake line (7) on brake hose (6) and release brake hose (6). NOTES
Seal connections immediately.
Otherwise damage can be caused by escaping brake fluid.
IMPORTANT Collect escaping brake fluid.
IMPORTANT The brake fluid reservoir must not run completely empty.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Brake line to brake hose *BA42.10-P-1002-04J 
    SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench bit Fig 3
    SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
8 Remove bolts of brake pads. Only when replacing or removing the brake caliper (1) or brake pads.

9 Remove bolts (5).    
Notice  Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process NOTES
Do not loosen screws (4) or remove from brake caliper support (8).
Otherwise, the factory-set alignment of the brake caliper (1) to the brake caliper support (8), and therefore to the brake disk in its installed condition, is no longer correct.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking bolt, brake caliper support to steering knuckle *BA42.10-P-1003-10L 
10 Remove brake caliper (1) together with brake pads and brake caliper support (8).    
11 Remove brake pads. Only when replacing the brake caliper (1) or brake pads.  
      AR42.10-P-1610MEX 
INSPECT Check     
12 Check brake pads for wear and condition.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

replace brake linings.

    IMPORTANT Always replace all the brake pads on the axle at the same time. AR42.10-P-1610MEX 
13.1 Check condition of brake disk and gauge degree of wear. Model 167 with code B07 (AMG - ceramic brake system)  
    If there is a problem,

replace corresponding brake disk.

    IMPORTANT Only brake disks approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
Always replace all the brake disks on the axle at the same time.

13.2 Check condition of brake disk and gauge degree of wear. Model 167 with code B06 (Silver brake calipers)
Model 167 with code U29 (AMG high-performance braking system)
Model 167 with code U70 (red-painted brake callipers)
 
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

Replace brake disks.

    IMPORTANT Only brake disks approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
Always replace all the brake disks on the axle at the same time.

14 Check brake caliper (1) and die dust boot on the brake pistons for leak tightness and damage. If there is a problem,

Replace brake caliper (1).
 
15 Check brake hose (6) for leakage and damage. If there is a problem,

Replace brake hose (6).

16 Install in the reverse order.    
  Concluding tasks     
17 Bleed brake system.   AR42.10-P-0010ME 
18 Perform brake test on test stand.
