CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Detach brake caliper (4) and fasten to vehicle free of tension with lines connected.   AR42.10-P-0070MEX 
2 Unhook electrical line of right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2) from brake caliper (4). When removing the brake pads (1) on the right side of the vehicle.  
3 Remove brake pads (1) together with spreader spring (3).    
4 Pull right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2) out of brakepad (1). When replacing the brake pads (1) or when replacing the right front brakepad wear sensor on the right side of the vehicle (S10/2).  
INSPECT Check     
5 Check bolts (2) and spreader springs (3) for damage and condition. If there is a problem,

replace bolts (2) or spreader springs (3).
 
6 Check brake pads (1) for wear and condition.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4252J
    If there is a problem,

Replace brake linings (1).
IMPORTANT Always replace all the brake pads (1) on the axle at the same time.
 
7.1 Check brake disks for wear and condition. Model 167 with code B07 (AMG - ceramic brake system) AR42.10-P-0270RG 
    If there is a problem,

replace corresponding brake disk.
 
    IMPORTANT Only brake disks approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
Always replace all the brake disks on the axle at the same time.

7.2 Check brake disks for wear and condition. Model 167 with code B06 (Silver brake calipers)
Model 167 with code U29 (AMG high-performance braking system)
Model 167 with code U70 (red-painted brake callipers)
 
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4256EW
    If there is a problem,

Replace brake disks.
 
    IMPORTANT Only brake disks approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
Always replace all the brake disks on the axle at the same time.

8 Check brake caliper (4) for damage and leak tightness. If there is a problem,

Replace brake caliper (4).

CLEAN Clean     
9 Clean contact surfaces of brake pads (1) on brake caliper (4). NOTES
Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects.
Otherwise, the dust boots or the brake caliper (4) may be damaged.
 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
INSTALLING Install     
10 Push back brake pistons. SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device
If the brake piston is sluggish,

Replace brake caliper (4).

11 Install right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2) into brakepad (1). When replacing the brake pads (1) or when replacing the right front brakepad wear sensor on the right side of the vehicle (S10/2).  
12 Insert spreader spring (3) into brake caliper (4).    
13 Insert brake pads (1) into brake caliper (4) and fix with bolts (2). NOTES
Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to the brake pads (1) and brake calipers (4).
Otherwise malfunctions will occur.
IMPORTANT Only install Mercedes-Benz approved brake pads (1) in sets. Observe installation position of brake pads (1).
 
14 Hook electrical line of right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2) into brake caliper (4). When installing the brake pads (1) on the right side of the vehicle.  
15 Install brake caliper (4) together with brake pads (1).   AR42.10-P-0070MEX 
    IMPORTANT Always install bolts (2) first before mounting front wheel and tire assemblies.  
16 Drive in bolts (2) up to end stop. IMPORTANT Make sure that the spreader spring (3) is seated correctly.  
17 Mount front wheel and tire assemblies.   AR40.10-P-1102ME
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
18 Operate brake pedal several times until the brake pads (1) make contact with the brake disks. IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
19 Check brake fluid level, correct if necessary.

20 Perform brake test on test stand.
