Risk of death  when working on component parts and systems with U >= 30 V alternating voltage (AC) or U >= 60 V direct voltage (DC) Do not touch damaged or defective live component parts and lines or non-insulated electrical connections and lines. AS00.00-Z-0035-01A
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running.
Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.
Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
Risk of explosion  /risk of fire caused by highly flammable materials in the vicinity of damaged xenon bulbs.
Risk of injury  caused by UV light, hot components on xenon headlamps and glass splinters produced by bursting xenon bulbs.
Risk of poisoning  caused by inhalation of mercury vapors and by swallowing of/skin contact with toxic salts and mercury compounds.
Do not touch parts conducting high voltage. Persons with active electronic implants  (e.g. cardiac pacemakers) must never work on xenon headlamps. Switch off the entire lighting system. Wear insulated safety shoes, safety glasses and protective gloves. Remove highly inflammable materials from the danger zone. Ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area. AS82.10-Z-0001-01A
General information on checking/correcting headlamp adjustment   AH82.10-P-1000-01A
  Preparatory activity
1 Prepare vehicle for checking/correcting headlamp adjustment   AP82.10-P-8260-10I
2 Determine degree of inclination for main headlamps
Notes on determining headlamp aiming values
IMPORTANT The degree of inclination for the main headlamps is specified on the model plate on the B-pillar on the passenger side. AH82.10-P-1005-01A
3 Set specified degree of inclination for main headlamps on headlamp aimer (01)
4 Switch on low beam
Check and, if necessary, adjust (checking and adjustment of the low beams is described for the left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10); the same procedure is used for the right side).
5 Check height adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10); adjust if necessary IMPORTANT If, for a low beam light gradient, the height adjustment is correct, the light-dark boundary (1) of the light gradient for the left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) to the left of the center mark (3) must be congruent with the reference line for height adjustment (2) in the headlamp aimer (01), as shown in the color image. The colored area of the light-dark boundary (1) of the left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) must be above the reference line for height adjustment (2), as shown in the color image.
If height adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) is correct.

No further check necessary, continue with operation step 6.
If height adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) is not correct.

Adjust zero position using diagnostic system in headlamp control unit.
Diagnosis → Control units view → Body → SG-SW left headlamp → Adaptations → Zero position adjustment.

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   If height adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) is correct after zero position adjustment has been performed.

No further check necessary, continue with operation step 6.
If height adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) is not correct after zero position adjustment has been performed.

Correct height adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) by turning adjustment screw for height adjustment (H).
AD00.00-P-2000-04A
6 Check lateral adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10); adjust if necessary IMPORTANT If, for a low beam light gradient, the lateral adjustment is correct, the light-dark boundary (1) of the left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) starting from the center mark (3) on the right must be congruent with the reference line for height adjustment (4) in the headlamp aimer (01), as shown in the color image.
The colored area of the light-dark boundary (1) of the left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) must be above the reference line for lateral adjustment (4), as shown in the color image.
If lateral adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) is correct.

no further check is necessary; continue with operation step 7.
If lateral adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) is not correct.

Correct lateral adjustment of left xenon bulb with integrated ignition module (E1e10) by turning adjustment screw for lateral adjustment(S).

  Finishing activity
7 Reset switch positions to input condition Only if the high beam setting is not to be checked afterwards.
