Remove/Install ETS/ASR/ESP(R) Hydraulic Unit - AR42.40-P-0816LW

CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Carry out commissioning of ESP® control unit (N30/4). When installing a new traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).
IMPORTANT The Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) is part of the traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).
 
2 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
3.1 Remove left and right wiper arm. Model 205 AR82.30-P-6100LW
3.2 Remove cover above brake fluid reservoir. Model 213, 238, 253
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install cover only after bleeding the brake system.
 
4 Remove air/water duct under left and right wiper arm. Model 205  
5 Unscrew nuts (1) and place engine fuse and relay module (K40/8) with connected electric lines to one side.    
CLEANING Clean     
6 Clean traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3) in the area of the brake line connections. NOTES Before opening the hydraulic system, the area surrounding the connecting points should be thoroughly cleaned.
Otherwise minute particles of dirt in the hydraulic components can result in malfunctions and total failure of the hydraulic system.
IMPORTANT Only use clean, lint free rags and cleaner free of mineral oil.
Do not use any compressed air for cleaning when the brake system is open. Assembly cleaner

7 Release and disconnect electrical connector (2) from ESP® control unit (N30/4). NOTES It is essential to follow the work instructions for disconnecting the electrical connector (2).
Otherwise the locking mechanism may be damaged.
NOTES The contacts on the electrical connection (2) on the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) must not be touched, deformed or damaged, and foreign objects, soiling or fluids must not penetrate into the electrical connection (2).
Otherwise, the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) may be damaged or it may malfunction.

8 Mark brake lines (3) relative to the corresponding connection on the traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).    
9 Detach brake lines (3) from traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).
Note on calculation of tightening torque when using insertion or socket tools with various effective lengths

NOTES Seal brake lines (3) and connections on traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).
Otherwise the traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3) may be damaged by the entry of foreign objects.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Route the brake lines (3) such that they are free of tension and do not chafe against adjacent parts. Pay attention to marking.

10 Remove traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3) with ESP® control unit (N30/4) upwards and out of elastomer bearings (4). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Make sure that the studs (arrows) of the bracket (5) are correctly seated in the elastomer bearings (4).  
INSPECT Check     
11 Check elastomer bearings (4) for wear and damage. If a problem arises

Replace elastomer bearing (4).
 
12 Remove screw (6) and remove holder (5). When installing a new traction system hydraulic unit (A7/3).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, bracket to traction system hydraulic unit

13 Install in the reverse order.    
14 Bleed brake system. Model 205, 253 AR42.10-P-0010LW 
Model 213, 238 AR42.10-P-0010LWE 
15 Read out and erase fault memory using the diagnostic system.
