Remove/Install Front Axle Brake Caliper - AR42.10-P-0070MFA

Model 118 (except 118.351/353/354/651/653/654), 177 (except 177.051/053/054/151/951), 243, 247 (except 247.651/751/753/754) 

1-piston floating caliper brake

CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove brakepads.   AR42.10-P-1610MFA 
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Brake paste or other lubricants must not be applied to the brakepads.  
2 Remove brake hose (6) from brake caliper (1) and seal exposed connections using suitable stop plugs.   AR42.10-P-0013MFA 
    NOTES Replace brake hoses.
Brake hoses are always replaced after
removal.
 
    SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
3 Unscrew screws (7) and remove brake caliper (1). INSTALLATION NOTES :
Do not damage electrical line of right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2).
Otherwise, function of the right front brakepad wear sensor (S10/2) is not guaranteed.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, guide pin to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1002-10ZA 
INSPECT Check     
4 Check brake caliper (1) for damage. If the brake caliper (1) is damaged:

Replace brake caliper (1).
 
5 Check dust boot at brake piston for damage. If the dust boot is damaged:

Replace brake caliper (1).
 
6 Install in the reverse order.    
  Concluding tasks     
7 Bleed brake system.   AR42.10-P-0010MFA 
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
8 Operate brake pedal several times until the brakepads contact the brake disks. IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
DANGER Risk of death  caused by limbs being caught or crushed by rotating parts when performing tests on the brake test stand Never leave the vehicle unattended on the rollers except in an emergency. Ensure that no one is under the vehicle or near rotating parts during testing. In case of emergency, use the EMERGENCY OFF switch to shut down test stand. AS42.00-Z-0001-01A 
9 Perform brake test on test stand.
