REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
  Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A

1 Open hood   AR88.40-P-1000GG
2 Unscrew cap of brake fluid reservoir and extract some brake fluid IMPORTANT In order to prevent the brake fluid reservoir from overflowing when pressing back the brake pistons.  
3 Lift/jack up vehicle   AR00.60-P-1000G
4 Remove rear wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP40.10-P-4050G
INSPECT Check     
5 Check break pads (1) and brake discs (2) IMPORTANT Always replace break pads (1) and brake discs (2) as a set, if necessary.  
    Brake pad wear limit, disk brake *BE42.10-P-1001-10A 
6 Disconnect electrical connector of rear right brake pad wear sensor (S10/4) When removing the brake pads (1) on the right-hand side of the vehicle  
7 Detach retaining spring from brake caliper    
8 Pry off and remove protective caps (3) from boots (4)    
9 Remove guide pins TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, pilot bushing/guide pin to brake caliper support *BA42.10-P-1002-17B 
10 Remove brake caliper (5) NOTES
Do not subject brake hoses (6) to tensile loads or kink. To relieve stress on the brake hose (6), fasten brake caliper (5) to vehicle free of tension.
Otherwise the brake hose (6) will be damaged
 
11 Take out break pads (1) IMPORTANT break pads (1) must be disposed of as special waste. The local authorities can provide information regarding whether disposal is also permitted as industrial waste similar to domestic waste.
IMPORTANT Only break pads (1) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed as a set.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Insert inner brake pad (1) with riveted-on spring in brake piston. Insert outer brake pad (1) into brake caliper support (7) and mount brake caliper (5).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not apply brake pastes or lubricants to the break pads (1) and brake calipers (5)!
 
12 Pull rear right brake pad wear sensor (S10/4) out of brake pad (1) When removing the brake pads (1) on the right-hand side of the vehicle
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace defective or seized rear right brake pad wear sensor (S10/4).
 
INSPECT Check     
13 Check brake caliper (5) for leak tightness In the event of leakage

Replace brake caliper (5).
 
      AR42.10-P-0080GWX 
14 Check dust boots of brake pistons If damage is present

Replace brake caliper (5).
 
      AR42.10-P-0080GWX 
15 Press back brake piston using resetting device NOTES
Do not position pusher tool on brake disc (2).
Otherwise, there may be damage to the brake system.
IMPORTANT The brake caliper (5) must be replaced:
 
    SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device
With sluggish brake pistons

Replace brake caliper (5).

CLEANING Clean     
16 Clean contact surfaces of break pads (1) in brake caliper (5) using rags NOTES
Do not damage dust boots on brake piston. Do not use sharp-edged or pointy tools.
Otherwise, the brake caliper (5) will be damaged.
 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
17 Install in the reverse order    
18 Depress brake pedal several times until break pads (1) make contact with brake discs (2) and firm resistance is noticeable    
INSPECT Check     
19 Correct fluid level in brake fluid reservoir    
20 Check function and effectiveness of brake system
