WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
  Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Open hood Model 463.234

2 Clean area around cap on expansion reservoir for brake fluid Cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1025-04A 
3 Unscrew the cap on the brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some brake fluid IMPORTANT This prevents the expansion reservoir overflowing when the brake piston is pushed back.  
  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
4 Raise vehicle Model 463.234

5 Detach wheel-and-tire assembly at the front   AR40.10-P-1100GWX
6 Detach left front brake wear sensor (8) from electrical connection for left front brake wear sensor (9)    
7 Carefully pull left front brake wear sensor (8) out of brake lining (3)    
8 Remove bolt (7) and pull support (4) out of spring steel sheet (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt for anti-rattle spring support *BA42.10-P-1006-02B 
9 Remove spring steel sheet (5)    
10 Remove break pads (3) from brake caliper (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only break pads (3) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed, and only as complete sets.
Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to the break pads (3) and brake calipers (1).
 
INSPECT Check     
11 Check spring steel sheet (5) and support (4) for damage and condition If a problem arises

Replace spring steel sheet (5) or support (4)
 
12 Check brake linings (3) for wear and condition    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 463.234
up to model year 2019
with code ZQ0 (G 500 4x42 )
IMPORTANT Replace break pads (3) as a complete set only.
In event of damage or excessive wear

Replace break pads (3)

13 Check brake disc for wear and condition    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 463.234
as of model year 2012 up to model year 2019
with code ZQ0 (G 500 4x42)
IMPORTANT Replace brake discs as a complete set only.
In event of damage or excessive wear

Replace brake disc

14 Check brake caliper (1) and dust boots of brake piston for leak tightness and damage If a problem arises

Replace brake caliper (1)

15 Press back brake piston using resetting device IMPORTANT Secure remaining brake pistons using two wedges against slipping out.

With sluggish brake pistons

Replace brake caliper (1)

CLEANING Clean     
16 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (3) on brake caliper (1) and brake piston NOTES
Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects. The brake caliper (1) or the dust boots of the brake pistons can otherwise be damaged.
 
    Cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1025-04A 
17 Install in the reverse order    
18 Operate the brake pedal several times until brake linings (3) contact the brake discs IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
19 Check/correct brake fluid level in expansion reservoir    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.50-P-4210G
20 Carry out brake test on the test stand
