Headlamp Cleaning System, Function - GF82.15-P-3000GW
Model 463
as of model year 2013
Function requirements, general
- Low beam ON:
The low beams can be switched on by the auto on/off headlamps function, the daytime running lights function or manually. The front SAM control unit (N10/6) (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342), or the SAM control unit (N10) (up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342) generates the "low beam on" status to match the given request itself.
- "Engine running" or "Drivetrain operational" signal set:
As of 03.04.2018 (except model 463.432), the CDI control unit (N3/9) or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) sends the "engine running" or "drivetrain operational" signal over the drive train CAN (CAN C1), powertrain control unit, suspension FlexRay (Flex E), electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
Up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342 the CDI control unit (engine 642) or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (engine 157, 273) sends the "engine running" or "drivetrain operational" signal over suspension CAN 1 (CAN E1), the electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the SAM control unit.
Up to 02.04.2018 and for engine 176, the ME-SFI [ME] control unit sends the "engine running" or "drivetrain operational" signal over the drive CAN (CAN C), powertrain control unit, suspension CAN 1, electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the SAM control unit.
Headlamp cleaning system, general
The headlamp cleaning system cleans cover plates for the headlamps using a high pressure water spray.
Function sequence for headlamp cleaning system
If the low beams are switched on and the windshield washer system is activated for the tenth time, the cover plates for the headlamps are cleaned by the headlamp cleaning system.
As of 03.04.2018 (except model 463.342) the steering column tube module control unit (N80) reads in the switch position of the combination switch (S4) directly and sends it over the suspension FlexRay, electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit, which then actuates the headlamp cleaning system pump (M5/2).
Up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342, the steering column tube module control unit reads in the switch position of the combination switch directly and sends it over suspension CAN 1, the electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the SAM control unit, which then actuates the headlamp cleaning system pump.
The washer fluid cleans the headlamp lenses. Following another ten wash requests, the headlamp cleaning system pump is actuated again.
The number of wipe requests is determined by a counter in the front SAM control unit (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342), or in the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342).
The counter is automatically reset when ten wipe requests are reached or manually by switching off circuit 15. The status of circuit 15 is sent by the electronic ignition lock control unit over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342) or to the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342).
