Remove/Install Rear Axle Coil Spring - AR32.20-P-0232LWO

WARNING Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves. AS00.00-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove rear complete wheels   AR40.10-P-1102A
2 Remove shock absorber from spring control arm (2)   AR32.25-P-0110LWO 
3 Tension rear axle spring (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Check rear axle springs (1) are firmly seated in spring seats (4, 5) (arrows e). AR32.20-P-0200-06LW 
    SPECIAL TOOL Clamping plates Fig 2

4 Remove rear axle spring (1) from spring control arm (2)    
5 Mark installation position of rear axle spring (1) relative to upper clamping plate (06) and lower clamping plate (07) using suitable adhesive strips (arrows a) IMPORTANT Do not use a touch-up paint pen because the rear axle spring (1) is color-coded.  
6 Relieve rear axle spring (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Observe markings.

7 Transfer markings using adhesive strips (arrows a) to new rear axle spring (1) When replacing rear axle spring (1).  
INSPECT Check     
8 Check rear axle spring (1) for paint damage When reinstalling rear axle spring (1).
In event of paint damage

Repair any paint damage using a black touch- up paint pen.
 
9 Check plastic shims (3) with spring seat (4) and spring seat (5) for damage INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Check plastic shims (3) (arrows b and c) and the spring seat (5) (arrows d) are correctly seated.
IMPORTANT When replacing rear axle spring (1), the spring seat (5) must be replaced. The spring seat (4) must be replaced with a spring seat (4) with a notch.
If required

Replace plastic shims (3) with spring seat (4) or spring seat (5).
 
10 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
11 Check/correct headlamp adjustment When replacing rear axle spring (1).  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP82.10-P-8260J
