General
The Adaptive Damping System control unit actuates the damping valve units at the corresponding shock absorbers. This means that dampening can be adapted to the driving style and road surface condition.
Function
For this purpose, the Adaptive Damping System control unit reads in signals from the level sensors and information from the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) control unit, the instrument cluster control unit and the powertrain control unit. To change the damper characteristic, the Adaptive Damping System control unit actuates the comfort valves of the damping valve units at the shock absorbers. This means that the flow area in the damper changes according to the situation, and consequently also the amount of oil flow, thereby changing the damping characteristics.
