Separate A-Pillar Outer Section - Ar63.20-P-1102-01LWO

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. This must be similarly performed for damage to the right side of the vehicle.

  1. Mark separating points on A-pillar paneling (5) and cut (areas A and B).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Component parts located behind this will otherwise be damaged and the strength affected.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    a = approx. 40 mm

    b = approx. 80 mm

  2. Expose spot welds on A-pillar paneling (5) and cut off (area C).

    IMPORTANT Cut off common spot welds on panels that are located one behind the other through two panel thicknesses.

  3. Heat A-pillar paneling (5) in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded.

  4. Remove A-pillar paneling (5).

  5. Mark separating points on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut (areas D and E).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Component parts located behind this will otherwise be damaged and the strength affected.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    d = approx. 80 mm

    IMPORTANT Mark separating point along Y-marking (area E).

  6. Expose spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut off (area F).
  7. Expose spot weld on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and drill out with Ø 6.5 mm (area H).
  8. Expose solder seams on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut (area G).

  9. Heat A-pillar reinforcement (6) in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded.

  10. Remove A-pillar reinforcement (6).

  11. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.

  12. Grind mating surfaces between reinforcement (10) and inner A-pillar (11) down to bare metal (arrows).
  13. Remove grinding dust and chips from drilling.
  14. Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges onto connecting flanges that are no longer accessible after installing side roof paneling.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area I).

    Otherwise adhesion problems can occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
