Function requirements for voice control system, general 

Voice control system, general 

The voice control system (VCS) is integrated in the head unit. The voice control system recognizes coherent commands that can be spoken by any person (e. g.: "Navigate to Mercedesstrae 87 in Stuttgart"), without the need for teach-in. If the message of the voice command is not clearly identified, a query is made by the voice control system.

On vehicles with code 531 (COMAND APS), numerous functions of the driver information system can be called up and operated, e. g.:

On vehicles with code 357 (Map navigation), the voice control system is limited to operation of the navigation mode.

Voice control system function sequence 

The voice control system is switched on and off at the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group via the following components:

Head unit

Voice input takes place via the driver hands-free system microphone, which is connected to the head unit via a direct line. The words that are spoken are converted into an electrical signal by the driver hands-free system microphone and forwarded to the head unit. The head unit processes the signals internally and implements them accordingly.

The audio signals are generated by the head unit and transmitted to the following components:
