Engine Sound, Function - GF82.60-P-0019FH
Model 238 (except 238.361/461)
Up To Model Year 2021
With Code B63 (Engine sound via speakers)
Model 238.361/461
Up To Model Year 2021
Function requirements, engine sound, general
- Engine running.
The engine sound noises are always emitted through the speakers in the vehicle, irrespective of whether the head unit is switched on or off.
Engine sound, general
Due to the progress made in vehicle insulation, the engine and exhaust sound in the vehicle interior can no longer be optimally perceived, which in turn can limit the driving experience. To optimize the engine and exhaust noise in the vehicle interior, the sound range in the vehicle interior is supplemented by simulated sound components via the speaker system.
The engine sound function is divided into the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for engine sound, model 238 (except 238.361/461) except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 811 (Advanced Sound System)
- Function sequence for engine sound, model 238.361/461 except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 811 (Advanced Sound System)
- Function sequence for engine sound With Code 810 (Sound system)
- Function sequence for engine sound With Code 811 (Advanced Sound System)
Function sequence for engine sound, model 238 (except 238.361/461) except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 811 (Advanced Sound System)
The engine sound control unit receives the following signals:
- Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load and vehicle speed) via the drive train CAN from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit
- Analog signals via direct line from the head unit
- CAN signals via the telematics CAN from the head unit to secure subnetwork operation
The engine sound control unit places synthesized sound signals over the input signals of the head unit and sends the composite signals via direct lines to the following speakers:
- Left front door midrange speaker
- Right front door midrange speaker
- Left side paneling midrange speaker
- Right side paneling midrange speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door tweeter
- Left front footwell woofer (for right-hand drive vehicles)
- Right front footwell woofer (for left-hand drive vehicles)
Function sequence for engine sound, model 238.361/461 except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 811 (Advanced Sound System)
The Midline sound system amplifier control unit receives the following signals:
- Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load and vehicle speed) via the drive train CAN from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit
The Midline sound system amplifier control unit forwards the synthesized sound signals to the following speakers:
- Left front door midrange speaker
- Right front door midrange speaker
- Left side paneling midrange speaker
- Right side paneling midrange speaker
- Center instrument panel speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door tweeter
- Left front footwell woofer
- Right front footwell woofer
The Midline sound system amplifier control unit software distributes the synthesized sound signals to the individual speakers.
Function sequence for engine sound With Code 810 (Sound system)
The sound system amplifier control unit receives the following signals:
- Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load and vehicle speed) via the drive train CAN from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit
The sound system amplifier control unit forwards the synthesized sound signals to the following speakers:
- Left front door midrange speaker
- Right front door midrange speaker
- Left side paneling midrange speaker
- Right side paneling midrange speaker
- Center instrument panel speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Right front door tweeter
- Left side paneling tweeter
- Right side paneling tweeter
- Left front footwell woofer
- Right front footwell woofer
- Left rear surround sound system midrange speaker
- Right rear surround sound system midrange speaker
The sound system amplifier control unit software distributes the synthesized sound signals to the individual speakers.
Function sequence for engine sound With Code 811 (Advanced Sound System)
The Advanced Sound System amplifier control unit receives the following signals:
- Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load and vehicle speed) via the drive train CAN from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit
The Advanced Sound System amplifier control unit forwards the synthesized sound signals to the following speakers:
- Left front footwell woofer
- Right front footwell woofer
- Left front door sound system tweeter
- Right front door sound system tweeter
- Left side paneling sound system tweeter
- Right side paneling sound system tweeter
- Left front door sound system woofer/midrange speaker
- Right front door sound system woofer/midrange speaker
- Center instrument panel tweeter
- Center instrument panel midrange speaker
- Left side paneling sound system midrange speaker
- Right side paneling sound system midrange speaker
- Left front door midrange speaker
- Right front door midrange speaker
- Left rear shelf surround sound system tweeter
- Left rear shelf surround sound system midrange speaker
- Right rear shelf surround sound system tweeter
- Right rear shelf surround sound system midrange speaker
- Left front center overhead control panel midrange speaker (3D sound)
- Right front center overhead control panel midrange speaker (3D sound)
- Left center rear center midrange speaker (3D sound)
- Right center rear center midrange speaker (3D sound)
- Center midrange speaker at left center (3D sound)
- Center midrange speaker at right center (3D sound)
The signals for the rear woofer are sent by the Advanced Sound System amplifier control unit to the rear woofer amplifier, which outputs the finally amplified signals via the speaker.
The Advanced Sound System amplifier control unit software distributes the synthesized sound signals to the individual speakers.
