REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove driver's airbag from steering wheel. Model 213
with code L2B (Leather luxury steering wheel)
except code L5C (Supersport steering wheel - leather deep-embossed)

with code L2B (Leather luxury steering wheel)
except code L5C (Supersport steering wheel - leather deep-embossed)

2 Remove bolts (1).    
3 Remove mounting plate (2) and release and disconnect electrical connector (7).    
4 Remove washers of screws (1). If washers are installed.  
5 Unscrew screws (4, 10) and unclip cover (5) with multifunction steering wheel button group 1 (S163/1), multifunction steering wheel button group 2 (S163/2) until electrical connectors (3, 6) are accessible. NOTES
Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
This will result in damage to the electric lines and can impair their function.
SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge

6 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (3, 6), remove electrical wiring harness of electrical connectors (3) from cover (5).    
7 Remove cover (5) with multifunction steering wheel button group 1 (S163/1), multifunction steering wheel button group 2 (S163/2).    
8 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (8) at multifunction steering wheel button group 1 (S163/1) and multifunction steering wheel button group 2 (S163/2).    
9 Unscrew screws (9) and remove multifunction steering wheel button group 1 (S163/1) or multifunction steering wheel button group 2 (S163/2). IMPORTANT Replace multifunction steering wheel button group 1 (S163/1) and multifunction steering wheel button group 2 (S163/2) in sets only.  
INSTALLING Install     
10 Attach multifunction steering wheel button group 1 (S163/1) or multifunction steering wheel button group 2 (S163/2) at cover (5) and screw in screws (9). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, button group to cover *BA46.10-P-1005-02J 
11 Connect and lock electrical connectors (8) of multifunction steering wheel button group 1 (S163/1) or multifunction steering wheel button group 2 (S163/2). NOTES
Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
This will result in damage to the electric lines and can impair their function.
IMPORTANT Ensure that electrical connectors (8) engage correctly.
IMPORTANT Ensure that routing of lines is correct.
 
12 Connect and lock electrical connectors (3, 6) and install electrical wiring harness of electrical connectors (3) at cover (5). IMPORTANT Ensure that electrical connectors (3, 6) engage correctly.  
13 Install cover (5) and screw in screws (4, 10). NOTES
Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
This will result in damage to the electric lines and can impair their function.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, rear cover to steering wheel
*BA46.10-P-1007-02J 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, front cover to steering wheel *BA46.10-P-1004-02J 
14 Check line routing of electrical wiring harness in steering wheel.   AR82.90-P-0101-01FRA
15 Install washers of screws (1). If washers are installed.
NOTES
Make sure that the washers of the screws (1) are seated correctly.
Otherwise, the horn is not operational.
 
16 Install mounting plate (2) and connect electrical connector (7). IMPORTANT Ensure that electrical connector (7) engages correctly.  
17 Screw in screws/bolts (1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, mounting plate/contact plate to steering wheel *BA46.10-P-1002-02J 
18 Install driver's airbag at steering wheel. Model 213
with code L2B (Leather luxury steering wheel)
except code L5C (Supersport steering wheel - leather deep-embossed)

19 Perform function test of steering wheel buttons.
