DANGER Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking.
Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m). NOTES All electrical consumers must be switched off.
Otherwise, they may be damaged when the ground line (1) is disconnected/connected.
 
2.1 Remove dust filter with air duct segment.

2.2 Remove spare wheel well trim. Model 257, 290

3 Disconnect charger of on-board electrical system battery (G1). When an external charger is connected.  
4 Disconnect diagnostic unit. If a diagnostic device is connected.  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
5 Unfasten nut (2) and remove ground line (1) from negative pole of on-board electrical system battery (G1). IMPORTANT Model 257, 290
with code B01 (48V technology)
The 48 V on-board electrical system switches off 12 V on-board electrical system support 10 s after disconnection of the ground line (1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, electrical line to negative terminal/positive terminal of on-board electrical system battery

6 Connect in reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
7 Check time display. If the time is incorrect,

set proper time.
