DANGER Risk Of Accident  When commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
WARNING Risk Of Injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk Of Poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk Of Injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/Install     
1 Remove cover over brake fluid expansion reservoir.    
2 Clean area around cap of brake fluid expansion reservoir. Assembly Cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Remove cap from brake fluid expansion reservoir and extract some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the brake fluid reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.  
4 Move brake pads (13) to assembly position. Model 205 as of model year 2019

NOTES
Do not operate the service brake while "move to assembly position" is shown.
Otherwise the spindle in the brake caliper (1) will be damaged.
IMPORTANT The Hood Must Be Closed.

5 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
6 Remove corresponding rear wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102A
7 Remove dust caps (arrows a). Model 205 (except 205.086/087/286/287/386/387/486/487)

8 Remove spring (7) from brake caliper (1). Model 205 (except 205.086/087/286/287/386/387/486/487)

9 Unhook electric line (8) from holder (arrow c). Model 205, 213, 253  
10 Unhook electric line (8) from cover of left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2). Model 205, 213, 253  
11 Unhook electric line (9) from holder (arrow c). Model 205, 213 with code 489 (airmatic dual control/semi-active air suspension)
Model 253 with code 489 (air body control)
 
12 unhook electric line (9) from cover of left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2). Model 205, 213 with code 489 (airmatic dual control/semi-active air suspension)
Model 253 with code 489 (air body control)
 
13 Unhook grommet (11) from holder (arrow b).    
14 Release and disconnect electrical connector (2) at brake lining wear sensor coupling housing (4). When removing brake caliper (1) on right side of vehicle.  
15 Remove screw (3) at brake lining wear sensor coupling housing (4). When removing brake caliper (1) on right side of vehicle.  
16 Release and disconnect electrical connector (10) from left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2).    
17.1 Unscrew bolt (6) from brake hose (5) and let brake hose (5) hang down to one side. Model 205 (except 205.086/087/286/287/386/387/486/487)

INSTALLATION NOTES
The new brake caliper (1) comes in prefilled condition and it must not be drained.
Otherwise the brake caliper (1) cannot be vented.

19 Remove brake caliper (1) from brake caliper support (14).    
20 Remove left electric parking brake actuator motor (m76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (m76/2) from brake caliper (1). When replacing the brake caliper (1). AR42.20-P-0600LW 
21 Remove brake pads (13) from brake caliper support (14). When replacing brake caliper support (14).  
22 Unscrew bolts of brake caliper support (14) and remove brake caliper support (14). When replacing brake caliper support (14).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 205, 253, 293 bolt, brake caliper/brake caliper support to wheel carrier
 
      *BA42.10-P-1001-12V 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 213 bolt, brake caliper/brake caliper support to wheel carrier *BA42.10-P-1001-12W 
INSPECT Check     
23 Check brake caliper (1) and dust boot on brake piston for leak tightness and damage. In the event of a problem,

Replace brake caliper (1).
 
24.1 Check guide pins (12) for ease of movement. Model 205 (except 205.086/087/286/287/386/387/486/487)
Model 213 (except 213.088/089/288/289)
Model 253 (except 253.388/389/988/989)
In the event of a problem,

Replace brake caliper (1).
 
24.2 Check boots and guide pins (12) at brake caliper support (14) for damage and ease of movement. Model 205.086/087/286/287/386/387/486/487
Model 213.088/089/288/289
Model 253.388/389/988/989
Model 293
In the event of a problem,

Replace brake caliper support (14).
 
25 Check brake pads (13) for wear and condition.

    In the event of a problem,

Replace brake pads (13).

26.1 Check brake disk (15) for wear and condition. Model 205, 213, 253 except code B07 (AMG - Ceramic Brake System)

IMPORTANT Only sets of brake disks (15) approved by mercedes-benz may be installed.
In the event of a problem,
Replace brake disks (15).

IMPORTANT Replace brake disks (15) as a complete set only.

26.2 Check brake disk (15) for wear and condition. Model 205, 213, 253 with code B07 (AMG - Ceramic Brake System) AR42.10-P-0270RG 
    IMPORTANT Only sets of brake disks (15) approved by mercedes-benz may be installed.
In the event of a problem,

Replace corresponding brake disk (15).

27 Check brake hose (5) for damage. In the event of a problem,

Replace brake hose (5).
AR42.10-P-0013LW 
28 Install in the reverse order.    
29 Bleed brake system. Model 205, 253, 293 AR42.10-P-0010LW 
    Model 213 AR42.10-P-0010LWE
30 Operate brake pedal several times until brake pads (13) make contact with brake disks (15). IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
DANGER Risk Of Death  Caused by limbs being caught or crushed by rotating parts when performing tests on the brake test stand Never leave the vehicle unattended on the rollers except in an emergency. Ensure that no one is under the vehicle or near rotating parts during testing. In case of emergency, use the emergency off switch to shut down test stand. AS42.00-Z-0001-01A 
31 Perform brake test on test stand.
