Ambient Illumination, Function - GF82.10-P-2014RF
Model 205, 253
Function requirements, general
- No undervoltage or overvoltage
- Activated "Surround lighting" function in head unit (A26/17) (model 205 as of 01.06.2018, model 253 (except model 253.99) as of 01.06.2019, model 253.99)
- Activated "Outer OFF delay function" and "Locator lighting" in head unit (model 205 up to 31.05.2018, model 253 (except model 253.99) up to 31.05.2019)
- Rain/light sensor with additional functions (B38/2) signals "Darkness recognized" (detected by the light sensor (B38/2b2))
- Exterior lights switch (S1) in position "AUTO"
The head unit transmits the status of the "Surround lighting" function or the statuses of the "Outer OFF delay" and "Locator lighting" functions via the user interface CAN (CAN HMI), electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) and interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit (N10/6).
The ambient brightness is detected by the light sensor in the rain/light sensor with additional functions. The rain/light sensor with additional functions reads in the signals of the light sensor directly, evaluates them and transmits information about the ambient light situation (dimness level) via the rain/light sensor LIN (LIN B16) to the front SAM control unit.
The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch directly.
Surround lighting, general
The ambient illumination is used for safely leaving and finding the vehicle in darkness.
The ambient illumination duration period can be adjusted in the head unit in 15 second increments from t = 0 to 60 s.
The following light functions are activated here:
- Standing/parking lights
Standing/parking lights actuation is performed more intensely (brighter) during the ambient illumination.
- Left outside mirror ambient illumination (M21/1) and right outside mirror ambient illumination (M21/2) (with CODE P49 (Mirror package)):
- Left outside mirror ambient lamp (M21/1e1)
- Right outside mirror ambient lamp (M21/2e1)
- Door handle ambient illumination (with CODE 889 (KEYLESS-GO)):
- Left front door outer door handle illumination (E17/7)
- Right front door outer door handle illumination (E178)
- Left rear door outer door handle illumination (E17/23) (model 205.0/1/2, 253)
- Right rear door outer door handle illumination (E17/24) (model 205.0/1/2, 253)
- Left front lamp unit ambient illumination (E1) and right front lamp unit ambient illumination (E2) (with CODE 641 (Left-hand traffic dynamic LED headlamp) or CODE 642 (Right-hand traffic dynamic LED headlamp)):
- Left front ambient light (E1e23) (model 205, model 253 (except model 253.99) as of 01.06.2019, model 253.99)
- Right front ambient light (E2e23) (model 205, model 253 (except model 253.99) as of 01.06.2019, model 253.99)
- Perimeter light, daytime running light, turn signal light and left ambient light (E1e26) (model 253 (except model 253.99) up to 31.05.2019)
- Perimeter light, daytime running light, turn signal light and right ambient light (E2e26) (model 253 (except model 253.99) up to 31.05.2019)
The ambient illumination function encompasses the following partial functions:
- Function sequence for headlamp switch-off delay (SWA) (outer OFF delay function)
- Function sequence for locator lighting (AFB)
The headlamp switch-off delay and locator lighting functions run in parallel if necessary. An active headlamp switch-off delay (SWA) function is not terminated by a requested AFB function and vice versa.
Function sequence for headlamp switch-off delay (SWA)
The SWA function is activated by the driver after the engine has been switched off (change in circuit status from circuit 15 ON to circuit 15R ON) for the configured period of time. The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 to the front SAM control unit via the interior CAN.
The front SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation.
In vehicles with code P49 (Mirror package) or code 889 (KEYLESS-GO), the front SAM control unit transmits the request to switch on the ambient illumination via the interior CAN to the following control units:
- Left front door control unit (N69/1)
- Right front door control unit (N69/2)
- Left rear door control unit (N69/3) (model 205.0/1/2, 253)
- Right rear door control unit (N69/4) (model 205.0/1/2, 253)
In vehicles with code 641 (LHD dynamic LED headlamp) or code 642 (RHD dynamic LED headlamp), the front SAM control unit also transmits the request to switch on the surround lighting via the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and peripherals CAN (CAN PER) to the following control units:
- Left headlamp control unit (E1n9)
- Right headlamp control unit (E2n9)
The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp (with CODE P49 (Mirror package)) and the left front door outer door handle illumination (with CODE 889 (KEYLESS-GO)).
The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp (with CODE P49 (Mirror package)) and the right front door outer door handle illumination (with CODE 889 (KEYLESS-GO)). The left rear door control unit (model 205.0/1/2, 253) actuates the left rear door outer door handle illumination (with CODE 889 (KEYLESS-GO)).
The right rear door control unit (model 205.0/1/2, 253) actuates the right rear door outer door handle illumination (with CODE 889 (KEYLESS-GO)).
The left headlamp control unit actuates the left front ambient light (model 205, model 253 (except model 253.99) as of 01.06.2019, model 253.99) or the ambient light in the perimeter light, daytime running light, turn signal light and left ambient light (model 253 (except model 253.99) up to 31.05.2019).
The right headlamp control unit actuates the right front ambient light (model 205, model 253 (except model 253.99) as of 01.06.2019, model 253.99) or the ambient light in the perimeter light, daytime running light, turn signal light and right ambient light (model 253 (except model 253.99) up to 31.05.2019).
The function starts again by opening a vehicle door or the trunk lid or the liftgate. If all vehicle doors are closed again, the function is restarted.
The front door control units send the status of the front doors over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit. The rear door control units (model 205.0/1/2, 253) send the status of the rear doors over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit. The rear SAM control unit (N10/8) sends the status of the trunk lid or liftgate over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The active SWA function is interrupted by switching on circuit 15 or by triggering an anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) alarm (with code 551 (Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]))).
Function sequence for AFB
When unlocking the vehicle, the ambient illumination is switched on for a period of t = 40 s (time of automatic relocking).
The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of the central locking via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
In vehicles with code P49 (Mirror package) or code 889 (KEYLESS-GO), the front SAM control unit transmits the request to switch on the ambient illumination via the interior CAN to the following control units:
- Left front door control unit
- Right front door control unit
- Left rear door control unit (model 205.0/1/2.253)
- Right rear door control unit (model 205.0/1/2, 253)
On vehicles with CODE 641 (DYNAMIC LEFT-HAND TRAFFIC LED HEADLAMP) or CODE 642 (DYNAMIC RIGHT-HAND TRAFFIC LED HEADLAMP), the front SAM control unit additionally sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and periphery CAN to the following control units:
- Left headlamp control unit
- Right headlamp control unit
The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp (with CODE P49 (Mirror package)) and the left front door outer door handle illumination (with CODE 889 (KEYLESS-GO)).
The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp (with CODE P49 (Mirror package)) and the right front door outer door handle illumination (with CODE 889 (KEYLESS-GO)).
If the engine is started within t = 40 s, the AFB switches to automatic driving lights.
