Location

The rear SAM control unit is at the center under the paneling in the trunk.

Tasks

The rear SAM control unit has the following tasks:

Reading in of sensors and signals
Evaluation of input factors
Control of systems
Actuation of components

The fuse and relay module of the rear SAM control unit supplies various systems and control units with power through limit switches to match the function sequence.

The following tasks are the responsibility of the fuse and relay module:

Voltage supply to components
Power supply and relay switching
Switching consumers using relays

Reading in of sensors and signals

The input factors are read in over the following connections:

Direct line
Local Interconnect Network (LIN)
Interior CAN (CAN B)

Direct line

The signals from the following components are read via a direct line:

FM, AM and CL antenna amplifier (A2/18) (as of 01.03.2016 without code 889 (KEYLESS-GO))
Fuel level indicator sensor (B4)
Trunk lid rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1)
Tank cap central locking actuator (M14/10)
Trunk lid contact switch (S88/6) (with code 887 (Separate trunk lid lock))
Trunk lid external operation switch (S88/8)
Trunk lid emergency opening switch (S88/10) (with code 460 (Canada version) or code 494 (USA version))
With code 551 (Anti-theft alarm system (ATA)):
Pedestrian protection Hall sensor + engine hood ATA switch (A38/1) (with code U60 (Active engine hood (pedestrian protection)), up to 31.05.2015)
Glove compartment anti-theft alarm system switch (S62/7)
Center console stowage compartment anti-theft alarm system switch (S62/32)
Left engine hood contact switch (S62/43) (without code U60 (Active engine hood (pedestrian protection)))

LIN

The following sensors are read in over LIN:

On-board electrical system LIN (LIN B7):
Battery sensor (B95)
Rear SAM LIN (LIN B4):
Alarm siren (h3/1) (with code 551 (Anti-theft alarm system (ATA)))
Interior protection sensor (A26/13) (with code 882 (Interior monitoring) (only with ATA)))

Interior CAN

The signals are read in by the rear SAM control unit over the interior CAN.

The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

Battery state recognition
Exterior lights (ABL) for vehicle rear
Heated rear window
Seat heater (with code 873 (Seat heater for driver and front passenger))
Anti-theft alarm system (ATA) (with CODE 551 (Anti-theft alarm system (ATA)))

Actuation of components

The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:

Direct line
LIN
Trunk lid central locking motor (M14/7)
Tank cap central locking actuator
Glove compartment central locking actuator motor (M14/18) (up to 31.05.2015)
Stowage compartment central locking actuator motor (M14/19)

Interior CAN

Direct line

The following components are actuated via a direct line:

Left rear lamp unit (E3)
Right rear lamp unit (E4)
Left rear side marker lamp (E3e6) (up to 29.02.216 with code 460 (Canada version) or code 494 (USA version))
Right rear side marker lamp (E4e6) (up to 29.02.216 with code 460 (Canada version) or code 494 (USA version))
Right trunk lamp (E18/4)
Left license plate lamp (E19/1)
Right license plate lamp (E19/2)
Center brake lamp (E21)
Trunk lid warning/ambient lamp (E17/27)
Rear window heater (R1)

With code 873 (Seat heater for driver and front passenger):

Left seat surface heater pad (R13/1)
Left backrest heater pad (R13/2)
Right seat surface heater pad (R13/3)
Right backrest heater pad (R13/4)

LIN

The following component is actuated via the rear SAM-LIN:

Alarm siren (with code 551 (Anti-theft alarm system (ATA)))

Interior CAN

The signals are sent over the interior CAN by the rear SAM control unit.
