Voice control system, general
The individual functions of the driver information system are called up and operated via the voice control system (VCS [SBS]). The VCS [SBS] is integrated in the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). The system can be operated by spelling out or entering complete words.
The voice control system is activated or deactivated via the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
- Voice control system ON button (S111s4)
- "Back" and voice control system OFF button (S110s4)
On vehicles as of 01.03.2016, the control signal of the voice control system ON button is forwarded by the steering wheel electronics (N135) via the following route:
Steering LIN (LIN E1) →
Steering column tube module control unit (N80) →
Chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) →
Front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) →
Chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) →

On vehicles up to 29.02.2016, the control signal of the voice control system ON button is forwarded by the steering wheel electronics via the following route:

The voice input takes place via the inside rearview mirror microphone (A67b1), which is connected to the COMAND controller unit via a direct line. The words spoken into the inside rearview mirror microphone are converted into an electrical signal and forwarded to the COMAND controller unit.
