General function requirements for navigation

Circuit 30g ON status present.
Transport mode is not active.
Navigation module (A2/30) is inserted into navigation module cradle (A2/30-1).
Signals are available from at least four GPS satellites (global navigation system).
Radio (A2) is switched on.

Navigation, general

The navigation module is also called "Becker MapPilot". The function and menu guidance are provided by the manufacturer and are not specific for Mercedes-Benz. Detailed operating instructions in PDF format for viewing on a PC are available in the manufacturer's content manager software or from the Internet site www.beckermappilot.com. Brief instructions from the manufacturer can be found in the packaging of the navigation module.

The navigation module is supported by the following vehicle components:

The "NAVI" button on the radio (A2) activates the menu.
Operation is possible via the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111).
Operation is possible via the Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9) and the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8).
A voice control system for the navigation mode can be switched on via the multifunction steering wheel button groups or via the Navigation menu item and voice input takes place via the inside rearview mirror microphone (A67b1); the signals are forwarded from the radio to the navigation module via an analog audio channel.
Traffic data in the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) are received via FM/TMC antenna splitter (A2/98) and FM 2, DAB and TV antenna amplifier (A2/19).
Audio output occurs via the vehicle speakers including audio reduction, adjustable in radio system menu.
The image output and map depiction occur on the Audio/COMAND display as well as on the instrument cluster (A1); view and menu display are generated in the navigation module, not in the radio.
GPS signals directly from the multifunction antenna (A28/11) (with code 386 (Comfort telephony)).
GPS signals from the multifunction antenna via the global positioning system antenna splitter (A2/5) (with code 348 (Emergency call/assist system)).
GPS signals directly from the GPS antenna (A2/23) (except code 386 (Comfort telephony), except code 348 (Emergency call/assist system)).
The interface software to the vehicle can be flashed using Daimler processes and the navigation software only with an Internet-compatible PC (with Content Manager software).

The navigation module is inserted into the cradle of the navigation module. A pin (slider) is also required for unlocking, which can be ordered from Mercedes-Benz Accessories as a replacement part.

The navigation module has a removable battery which can be ordered via Mercedes-Benz Accessories as a replacement part.

The navigation system can be restarted with the RESET button the navigation module or by momentarily removing the navigation module from the holder.

Theft protection

A theft protection facility can be called up from the menu. The navigation module can be coupled to the vehicle via the vehicle identification number (FIN) by entering a freely selectable Personal Identification Number (PIN). The navigation module then functions only in this vehicle. The theft protection is disabled in the same menu by entering the PIN.

Software update

The navigation software and the map data can only be updated by the customer via the manufacturer's Internet portal. A Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection on the navigation module is used to access the Internet via the content manager software of the manufacturer.

Map data can also be updated via Mercedes-Benz Accessories using an SD card slot (Secure Digital) on the navigation module.
