Standing/Parking Lights Actuation, Function - GF82.10-P-3060RDM
Model 172.4 as of model year 2017
Function requirements for standing/parking lights actuation, general
- No overvoltage or undervoltage (operating voltage range U ≥ 7 ≤ 17.5 V)
Standing/parking lights, general
The standing lights/parking lights actuation serves the marking of the parked vehicle in darkness.
The standing/parking lights actuation is comprised of the following partial functions:
- Standing lamp actuation function sequence
- Function sequence for lights on reminder warning
- Parking lights actuation function sequence
Standing lamp actuation function sequence
Turning the exterior lights switch (S1) to the standing lights position requests actuation of the standing lights.
The front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) reads in the exterior lights switch status directly (voltage-coded) and sends the "Standing light ON" request via interior CAN (CAN B) to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2).
At the same time, the front SAM control unit sends the "Standing lights indicator lamp ON" request via interior CAN to the instrument cluster (A1), which then switches on the scale illumination and the standing lights indicator lamp (A1e38).
In vehicles without code 640 (High-performance LED) and without code 641 (Dynamic left-hand traffic LED headlamp) and without code 642 (Dynamic right-hand traffic LED headlamp), the following components are actuated directly by the front SAM control unit:
- Left front lamp unit (E1)
- Left position light and daytime running light (E1e27)
- Left front side marker light (E1e6) (with CODE 460 (Canada version) or CODE 494 (USA version))
- Right front lamp unit (E2)
- Right position light and daytime running light (E2e27)
- Right front side marker light (E2e6) (with CODE 460 (Canada version) or CODE 494 (USA version))
On vehicles with code 640 (High-performance LED) or code 641 (Dynamic left-hand traffic LED headlamp) or code 642 (Dynamic right-hand traffic LED headlamp), the front SAM control unit sends the "Standing light ON" request via chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) to the left headlamp control unit (E1n9) and the right headlamp control unit (E2n9).
The left headlamp control unit actuates the following components in the left front lamp unit:
- Left Position light, daytime running light and turn signal light (E1e25)
- Left front position light (E1e31)
- Left front side marker light (with CODE 460 (Canada version) or CODE 494 (USA version))
The right headlamp control unit actuates the following components in the right front lamp unit:
- Right Position light, daytime running light and turn signal light (E2e25)
- Right front position light (E2e31)
- Right front side marker light (with CODE 460 (Canada version) or CODE 494 (USA version))
The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components directly:
- Left rear lamp unit (E3)
- Upper left taillight (E3e25)
- Lower left taillight (E3e26)
- Right rear lamp unit (E4)
- Upper right taillight (E4e25)
- Lower right taillight (E4e26)
- Left license plate lamp (E19/1)
- Right license plate lamp (E19/2)

The left and right rear side marker lamps are each activated together with the lower taillights.
Additional function requirements for lights on reminder
- Standing lights ON
- Driver door OPEN
- Circuit 15C OFF
Function sequence for lights on reminder warning
The logic for requesting the lights on reminder function is stored in the front SAM control unit.
The left door control unit (N69/1) sends the status of the driver door (open or closed) and the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the circuit 15 status via the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The front SAM control unit receives this information and from it generates the request for output of the lights on reminder function and transmits this to the instrument cluster via the interior CAN. The instrument cluster then actuates the integrated warning buzzer (A1h1). The "Switch off light" request is shown on the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster.
The standing lights may be switched on because the low beams have been manually switched on, because of the auto on/off driving lights or manually via the exterior lights switch.
If the standing lights have been activated because of the manually activated low beams, auto on/off driving lights or daytime running lights and the driver door is opened with circuit 15C On, the standing lights are switched off.
Parking lights actuation function sequence
By turning the exterior lights switch to the left parking lights position or the right parking lights position, the parking lights actuation is requested for the corresponding side of vehicle.
The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch directly.
On vehicles without code 640 (High-performance LED) and without code 641 (Dynamic left-hand traffic LED headlamp) and without code 642 (Dynamic right-hand traffic LED headlamp), the following is valid:
Left front parking light:
The front SAM control unit actuates the left position light and daytime running light in the left front lamp unit.
Right front parking light:
The front SAM control unit actuates the right position light and daytime running light in the right front lamp unit.
On vehicles with code 640 (High-performance LED) or code 641 (Dynamic left-hand traffic LED headlamp) or code 642 (Dynamic right-hand traffic LED headlamp), the front SAM control unit sends the "Parking light ON" request via chassis CAN 2 to the left headlamp control unit and the right headlamp control unit. The following also applies:
Left front parking light:
The left headlamp control unit actuates the following components in the left front lamp unit:
- Left position light, daytime running light and turn signal light
- Left front position light
- Left front side marker light (with CODE 460 (Canada version) or CODE 494 (USA version))
Right front parking light:
The right headlamp control unit actuates the following components in the right front lamp unit:
- Right position light, daytime running light and turn signal light
- Right front position light
- Right front side marker light (with CODE 460 (Canada version) or CODE 494 (USA version))
In addition, the front SAM control unit transmits the "Parking light ON" request via interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit, which directly actuates the following components:
- Left rear lamp unit
- Upper left taillight
- Lower left taillight
- Right rear lamp unit
- Upper right taillight
- Lower right taillight

The left and right rear side marker lamps are each activated together with the lower taillights.
The standing and parking lights are switched off if the energy management determines that the engine start capability is impaired by the on-board electrical system battery (G1) discharging.
