Flashing Light Control, Basic Function - GF82.10-P-1023A

Model All (CAR)

Model All (4xWD)

Overview

This document contains the following information

General

The flashing light control includes all functions for the task of the direction indicator, various warnings and feedback.

The various requirements for releasing the function are prioritized by the exterior lighting control unit (depending on the vehicle, the central signal acquisition and activation module or the front signal acquisition and activation module).

The turn signal can be overridden by the hazard warning lights and vice versa. The control unit for the exterior lighting sends one flashing cycle with the duration of the light phase of the turn signal lights to the corresponding control units via CAN.

The currently active function is indicated by indicator lights and also signaled acoustically.

If a turn signal light fails, the frequency at which the indicator lamps are actuated is doubled, as is the frequency of the acoustic feedback.

The flashing frequency of the turn signal lights of 1.5 Hz remains the same.

Vehicles With Economic Commission For Europe (ECE) Version

Daytime Running Lights are switched off while the turn signal is being activated.

Vehicles With Canada Or USA Version

During turn signal control, the daytime running lights are dimmed to position light level.

Vehicles With Trailer Hitch

In trailer mode, the flashing light on the trailer is also activated. The exterior lighting control unit requests activation of the flashing light on the trailer. The trailer detection control unit implements this requirement.

Function Requirements

Function

Turn Signals

Pressing the combination switch downwards or upwards requests turn signaling in the corresponding direction.

If the combination switch is only operated briefly (under 440 ms), three blinking cycles are output (one-touch turn signaling).

In vehicles with Active Parking Assist, the system requests the turn signal during the assisted parking process.

IMPORTANT The one-touch turn signaling is overridden by the hazard warning flasher or canceled if the combination switch is activated in the opposite direction.

Central Locking Locking/Unlocking Feedback

The hazard warning flasher is automatically activated when the central locking system (CL) is locked/unlocked. When the CL is unlocked, the hazard warning flashing function is activated for one blinking cycle; three blinking cycles are output when it is locked.

Hazard Warning Flashing

In the case of a hazard warning flashing, all the flashing lights on the vehicle are activated synchronously. Depending on the ignition status, two duty cycles are given.

IMPORTANT If a turn signal light fails during hazard warning flashing, the frequency at which the indicator lamps are actuated doubles. The frequency of the acoustic feedback is not doubled.

Hazard warning flashing can be triggered manually via the hazard warning lights button.

Hazard Warning Flashing After Emergency Braking

IMPORTANT (Not for Canada-version or USA-version)

If the vehicle has been decelerated to below 3 km/h by emergency braking off at a speed of at least 70 km/h, the hazard warning flashing is automatically activated. The hazard warning flashing is ended by pressing the hazard warning system button or by exceeding a speed of 10 km/h.

Hazard Warning Flashing After Emergency Stop

IMPORTANT Vehicles with driver assistance package

If the vehicle has been decelerated below 60 km/h due to an emergency stop, the hazard warning flashing will be activated automatically.

As long as the vehicle is not decelerated below 3 km/h, the hazard warning flashing is also ended when the emergency stop is ended.

Below 3 km/h the hazard warning flashing is continued off.

The hazard warning flashing is ended by pressing the hazard warning lights button or by exceeding a speed of 10 km/h.

The hazard warning flasher during emergency stop function is not available in the following countries:

Hazard Warning Flashing After Airbag Deployment

When an airbag is deployed or during a rollover of the vehicle (crash signal sent), the hazard warning flasher is automatically activated.

The hazard warning flasher is deactivated by pressing the hazard warning lights button.

Hazard warning flashing for alarm

IMPORTANT Vehicles with anti-theft alarm system (ATA)

The hazard warning flasher is automatically activated when an ATA or emergency alarm is triggered. Hazard warning flashing is deactivated after approx. 5 min.
