Function requirements for speaker output, general

Speaker output, general

A distinction is made between the following procedures:

Speaker output in vehicles with code 810 (Sound system)

The audio signals are directed from the COMAND controller unit, Rear Seat Entertainment System controller unit (with code 864 (Rear Seat Entertainment System)) or tuner unit (with code 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio), with code 537 (digital radio (DAB)), with code 865 (TV tuner)) to the sound system amplifier control unit via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). There, the audio signals undergo final amplification and are output over the following speakers using direct lines:

IMPORTANT Model 217, 222

up to model year 2018

with code 348 (Emergency call/assistant system)

With active vehicle-related services, the center instrument panel speaker is used for voice output and is actuated by the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) via direct lines.

IMPORTANT Model 217, 222

up to model year 2018

with code 351 (Emergency call system (HERMES))

With active vehicle-related services, the center instrument panel speaker is used for voice output and is actuated by the HERMES control unit (N112/9) via direct lines.

During actuation of the speaker system, the volume is adapted to the noise level in the vehicle interior. For volume adjustment, the COMAND controller unit sends the vehicle speed signal and the signals from the hands-free system microphone (interference recording) via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit.

Speaker output in vehicles with code 811 (Advanced sound system)

The audio signals are directed from the COMAND controller unit, Rear Seat Entertainment System controller unit (with code 864 (Rear Seat Entertainment System)) or tuner unit (with code 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio), with code 537 (digital radio (DAB)), with code 865 (TV tuner)) to the sound system amplifier control unit via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST). There, the audio signals undergo final amplification and are output over the following speakers using direct lines:

The sound system amplifier control unit forwards the audio signals for the subwoofer to the bass speaker amplifier.

IMPORTANT Model 217, 222

up to model year 2018

with code 348 (Emergency call/assistant system)

With active vehicle-related services, the center instrument panel midrange speaker is used for voice output and is actuated by the emergency call system control unit via direct lines.

IMPORTANT Model 217, 222

up to model year 2018

with code 351 (Emergency call system (HERMES))

With active vehicle-related services, the center instrument panel midrange speaker is used for voice output and is actuated by the HERMES control unit via direct lines.

IMPORTANT Model 222

up to model year 2018

with code 811 (Advanced sound system)

The left front door tweeter and right front door tweeter are extended in operation by the respective actuator motor actuated by the left front door tweeter control unit (N160/1) or right front door tweeter control unit (N160/2). Upon parking the vehicle, the left front door tweeter and right front door tweeter are retracted again.

Speaker output in vehicles except CODE 811 (Advanced sound system) and except CODE 810 (Sound system)

The audio signals are output by the COMAND controller unit via direct lines over the following speakers:

IMPORTANT Model 217, 222

up to model year 2017

with code 348 (Emergency call/assistant system)

Model 217, 222

up to model year 2017

with code 350 (Ecall emergency call system, Europe)

Model 217, 222

up to model year 2018

with code 351 (Emergency call system (HERMES))

The center instrument panel speaker is also installed and is actuated by the emergency call system control unit.

Speaker actuation for front voice output

For voice output the audio quality is optimized for the front passenger cell area. Voice output is available, for example, as part of the following functions:

In vehicles except code 810 (Sound system) and code 811 (Advanced sound system), the following speakers are actuated for voice output (front):

In vehicles with code 810 (Sound system), the following speakers are actuated for voice output (front):

In vehicles with code 811 (Advanced sound system), the following speakers are actuated for voice output (front):

Speaker actuation for voice output in rear (model 222)

The rear speakers are actuated for voice output in the rear, e.g. as part of the rear telephony (with code 855 (Telephony in rear) or with code 856 (Business telephony in rear)).

On vehicles except code 810 (Sound system) and code 811 (Advanced sound system), the Rear Seat Entertainment system controller unit forwards the audio signals via the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) to the COMAND controller unit. The following speakers are actuated:

In vehicles with code 810 (Sound system), the following speakers are actuated for voice output in the rear:

In vehicles with code 811 (Advanced sound system), the following speakers are actuated for voice output in the rear:

Additional function requirements for in-car communication (on model 222 with code 810 (Sound system) or with code 811 (Advanced sound system))

In-car communication (on model 222 with code 810 (Sound system) or with code 811 (Advanced sound system))

In the in-car communication the signals captured by the hands-free system microphone are evaluated, amplified and then emitted over the rear speakers. Consequently, the driver or front passenger comments can be heard better in the rear.

IMPORTANT It is not possible to output any comments from the rear through the front speakers.

The COMAND controller unit sends the signals of the hands-free system microphone via the following route:

MOST →

Sound system amplifier control unit

On vehicles with code 810 (Sound system), the sound system amplifier control unit outputs the signals over the following speakers:

On vehicles with code 811 (Advanced sound system), the sound system amplifier control unit outputs the signals over the following speakers:
