Model 222 (except 222.077/176/177/178/179/187/188/980) 

except code B01 (48V technology)

WARNING Risk of injury.  Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
DANGER Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking.
Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off all electrical consumers NOTES All electrical consumers must be switched off.
Risk of damage to consumers when disconnecting/connecting the ground line (1).
 
2 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m)    
3 Remove right trunk trim   AR68.30-P-4600LF
4 Unscrew nuts (2, 3)    
5 Remove rear fuse and relay module (K40/5) from mounting (arrow) on battery box for auxiliary battery (4) NOTES Guide rear fuse and relay module (K40/5) carefully out of the support (arrow).
Otherwise the catch hook that locks the housing of the rear fuse and relay module (K40/5) in the support (arrow) may break.
IMPORTANT Tilt rear fuse and relay module (K40/5) upwards to the rear and downwards to the front, and remove with upward swivel movement.
 
6 Remove DC/DC converter control unit for windshield heater Model 222 (except 222.077/176/177/178/179/187/188/980)
with code 597 (Heated windshield)
except code B01 (48V technology)
except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)

7 Detach vent hose (5) from elbow fitting (6) INSTALLATION NOTES Ensure that vent hose (5) is seated and routed correctly.
Battery acid vapors emitted will otherwise damage surrounding components.
 
8 Release shackle (7) and slide battery box for auxiliary battery (4) rearwards out of the mounting for the battery box (8) IMPORTANT Slide battery box for auxiliary battery (4) as far back as possible out of the mounting for the battery box (8) until the cover for the battery box (9) can be removed.  
9 Remove cover of battery box (9) from battery box of additional battery (4)    
10 Unscrew screw/bolt (10) and disconnect ground line (1) at ECO start/stop function additional battery (G1/13) IMPORTANT Bolt (10) remains on ground line (1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, charging cable to battery terminal of additional battery

11 Use a diode test lamp to check the on-board electrical system for voltage between the positive line (11) and a suitable ground point NOTES Cover up positive line (11).
Otherwise a short circuit may occur.
NOTES If voltage is present, the on-board electrical system is still active due to a fault.
Danger of damage due to short circuit.
If the on-board electrical system is still active:

Detach ground line of on-board electrical system battery.
Rectify fault in on-board electrical system.

12 Remove screw/bolt (12) and detach positive line (11) IMPORTANT Bolt (12) remains on positive line (11).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, charging cable to battery terminal of additional battery

13 Take battery box for additional battery (4) with ECO start/stop function additional battery (G1/13) out of trunk    
14 Take ECO start/stop function additional battery (G1/13) out of battery box for additional battery (4) When replacing the auxiliary battery for the ECO start/stop function (G1/13).  
15 Install in the reverse order
