WARNING Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
  Risk of fire/risk  of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC.   Disconnect, connect     
1 Open hood.    
2 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m). NOTES All electrical consumers must be switched off. Otherwise they or the on-board electrical system battery (G1) may be damaged when disconnecting/connecting the ground line (3).  
3.1 Expose on-board electrical system battery (G1) in trunk or load compartment. Model 205 (except 205.012/013/047/053/054/147/212/213/247/253) with code B01 (48V technology)

3.2 Remove cover (1) and expose on-board electrical system battery (G1). Model 205 (except 205.012/013/047/053/054/08/147/212/213/247/253/38) except code B01 (48V technology)

4 Disconnect charger of on-board electrical system battery (G1). When an external charger is connected.  
5 Disconnect diagnostic unit. If a diagnostic device is connected.

6 Undo nut (2) and remove ground line (3) from negative pole of on-board electrical system battery (G1). IMPORTANT Model 205, 213, 253 with code B01 (48V technology) The 48 V on-board electrical system switches off 12 V on-board electrical system support 10 s after disconnection of the ground line (3).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, electrical line to negative terminal/positive terminal of on-board electrical system battery

7 Using a diode test lamp, check on-board electrical system for voltage between positive line of on-board electrical system battery (G1) and disconnected ground line (3). Model 205.012/013/047/053/054/147/212/213/247/253

IMPORTANT If the diode test lamp lights up, the onboard electrical system is still active because of a defect in the electrical system. If the diode test lamp lights up,

Detach ground line from additional battery and check the on-board electrical system after completing the work.

8 Connect in reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
9 Check time display. If there is a problem,

set proper time.
