REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove corresponding front wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102ME
2 Transfer the pneumatic pressure of the suspension strut into the central reservoir using the diagnostic system. Model 167 with code 489 (AIRMATIC Dual Control/semi-active air suspension) except code 490 (Electrohydraulic suspension)

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   NOTES
The complete wheels must not touch the ground.
Otherwise the suspension struts may suffer initial damage and malfunction at a later stage
IMPORTANT Select menu item "Actuations" in active suspension and damping system control unit.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Transfer pneumatic pressure out of the central reservoir into the suspension strut using the diagnostic system.

3 Drain the hydraulic pressure lines of the electrohydraulic suspension using guided diagnosis. Model 167 with code 489 (AIRMATIC Dual Control/semi-active air suspension)
with code 490 (Electrohydraulic suspension)
NOTES
The complete wheels must not touch the ground.
Otherwise the suspension struts may suffer initial damage and malfunction at a later stage.
IMPORTANT It is essential for shutoff valves on suspension strut to be closed.

4 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
5 Remove center and rear engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105ME
6 Remove torsion bar linkage from stabilizer bar. Model 167
except code 489 (AIRMATIC Dual Control/semi-active air suspension) except code 490 (Electrohydraulic suspension)

IMPORTANT Remove torsion bar linkage carefully; stabilizer bar is under tension.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, stabilizer rod to stabilizer *BA32.35-P-1002-02D 
7 Remove nut (2) and remove bolt (3). INSTALLATION NOTES
Tighten nut (2) lightly by hand. Apply final torque only after the vehicle is on the measuring platform or when the vehicle is in a neutral position.
Otherwise, the elastomer bearing will be stretched.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, shock absorber to wishbone *BA32.25-P-1002-01O 
8 Remove nut (4) and remove lock plate. IMPORTANT Ensure that the lock plate placed behind it does not fall out.
Counterhold nut over supporting joint (9) with suitable tool.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Locking slotted nut, supporting ball joint to steering knuckle *BA33.20-P-1005-01W 
    SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench Fig 2
9 Remove nut (5) at rear elastomer bearing and remove screw (6). INSTALLATION NOTES
Tighten nut (5) lightly by hand. Apply final torque only after the vehicle is on the measuring platform or when the vehicle is in a neutral position.
Otherwise, the elastomer bearing will be stretched.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, lower transverse control arm to front axle carrier *BA33.20-P-1004-01W 
10 Remove nut (7) at front elastomer bearing and remove screw (8). INSTALLATION NOTES
Tighten nut (7) lightly by hand. Apply final torque only after the vehicle is on the measuring platform or when the vehicle is in a neutral position.
Otherwise, the elastomer bearing will be stretched.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, lower transverse control arm to front axle carrier *BA33.20-P-1004-01W 
11 Remove lower transverse control arm (1) with supporting joint (9).    
12 Check supporting joint (9) for damage. If there is a problem,

Replace supporting joint (9).
 
      AR33.20-P-0440ME 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, supporting joint to lower transverse control arm *BA33.20-P-1003-01W 
13 Install in the reverse order.    
MEASURING Measure     
14 Perform chassis alignment.   AR40.20-P-0200ME
