(Remove/Install Intermediate Shaft - AR33.30-P-0625MSA)

Model 257 with engine 256 with transmission 725.0 

with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove left front axle shaft.   AR33.30-P-0620MSA 
2 Detach retaining ring (2).    
3 Remove intermediate shaft (1) with deep-groove ball bearing (3).    
INSPECT Check     
4 Check deep-groove ball bearing (3) for damage. If damage is found,

Replace deep-groove ball bearing (3).

SPECIAL TOOL Pulling arms Fig 1
SPECIAL TOOL Puller, two-arm Fig 2
SPECIAL TOOL Thrust piece set Fig 3
SPECIAL TOOL Drift Fig 4
5 Check intermediate shaft (1) for damage. If damage is found,

Replace intermediate shaft (1).
 
6 Check pilot bushing (4) for damage. If pilot bushing (4) is damaged:

Replace pilot bushing (4).
REMOVING Observe installation position (arrow).
 
7 Check pilot bushing (4) is correctly seated in oil pan. NOTES
The pilot bushing (4) must be installed in the oil pan.
Otherwise, the radial shaft sealing ring on the front axle differential will be damaged. If the pilot bushing (4) is not correctly seated in the oil pan:

Install pilot bushing (4) correctly in oil pan. IMPORTANT Observe installation position (arrow).
 
INSTALLING Install     
8 Install intermediate shaft (1) with deep-groove ball bearing (3).    
9 Attach retaining ring (2).    
10 Install left front axle shaft.   AR33.30-P-0620MSA
