DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove flywheel/drive plate (1). Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with transmission 724.0 AR03.30-P-8001MFC 
    Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with transmission 724.1 AR03.30-P-8001MFI 
2 Remove crankshaft Hall sensor (B70).   AR15.12-P-2136MFC
3 Remove crankshaft pulse ring (2). NOTES Handle crankshaft pulse ring (2) with care.
It may be damaged otherwise.

4 Remove screws (5a), release crankcase cover (5) with radial shaft sealing ring (6) from crankcase (3), and remove.   AR03.20-P-3003-01MFC 
    NOTES Do not pound in any tool between the crankcase cover (5) and the crankcase (3) to pry them apart.
The sealing surfaces can be damaged otherwise.
IMPORTANT Fit tool for prying off onto side notch clearances of the end cover (5). Heat up sealant with a heat gun if necessary.

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT It is essential to observe information concerning applying sealant and the correct installation position of sealing lips of the radial shaft sealing ring (6).
Loctite 7200

    Sealant, Loctite 5970, 50 ml *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, rear end cover to crankcase/oil pan (belt side) *BA01.40-P-1002-01K 
    SPECIAL TOOL Insertion tool Fig 2
CLEAN Clean     
5 Clean sealing surfaces for end covers (5).   AR01.00-P-0050-01A
  Notes on application of flange sealants to seal major assemblies   AH00.00-P-0500-01MNE
    NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surfaces can be damaged otherwise.
Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray

    Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
6 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
WARNING Risk of burn  injuries, suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the danger zone. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
7 Perform engine test run. While doing so, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
