Service Information: Notes On Processing Vehicles With Major Technical Modifications - Si00.00-D-0169SG

Model all (Light transporter)

Notes on processing vehicles with extensive technical modifications that have been sold in a dual-invoice transaction (ZRG) (e.g. camper van):

In dual-invoice transactions, it is not typically Mercedes-Benz AG that brings the vehicle to the market; rather it is the respective body manufacturer (ABH), which is therefore simultaneously the vehicle manufacturer.

The vehicle manufacturer can be found in the vehicle's Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate Part II ("Vehicle Registration Document"). In dual-invoice transactions, the indicated vehicle manufacturer is the customer's contact person for all claims arising from the purchase contract.

This applies in particular for warranty and goodwill operations (W & G). The body manufacturer is responsible for the risks of the body and the modified vehicle functions and must comply with the ABH policies. Generally, customers whose vehicle is based on a Mercedes-Benz basic vehicle should not be refused.

Particularly for scopes of work that were agreed between the body manufacturer and Mercedes-Benz AG. These can be recognized, for example by a document that the customer provides. Relevant information and procedures are described in it.

Why are we informing you about this situation?

For work on a Mercedes-Benz basic vehicle, increased additional work should sometimes be expected on highly modified vehicles, depending on the body.

The Mercedes-Benz workshop must ensure that this additional work-compared to a repair on a non-modified vehicle - is borne by the ABH or the customer.

Care must be taken in the workshop to ensure that scopes that are not part of the scope of supply for the Mercedes-Benz basic vehicle are not charged to Mercedes-Benz.

For this, the workshop must inform itself about the body status and responsibilities BEFORE  performing a repair.

It is mentioned in the ABH policy that the additional work caused by the body will not be covered by Mercedes-Benz AG.

Furthermore, the following is written in the Warranty Manual:

"... Repair scopes for which no damage codes (...) have been created, must be coordinated in advance and in writing with the body manufacturer by the authorized Mercedes-Benz service partner. Cost settlement will be effected directly with the body manufacturer."

In case of doubt, please contact Mercedes-Benz Technical Workshop Support through a TIPS case BEFORE  starting any work.
