WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it.
Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust.		 Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.
Use the extraction system. Move people out of the danger zone.		 AS49.00-Z-0001-01A 
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.		 AS00.00-Z-0017-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Lift vehicle with lifting platform.   AR00.60-P-1000LF
2 Remove trim (55) of trunk recess.    
3 Remove underbody protection. Engine 157, 276.8/9, 277, 278, 279, 642, 651 in model 222  
    with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)  
      AR61.40-P-1001LFS
4 Remove screws (9) and remove reinforcement (1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, rear reinforcement to frame floor assembly *BA61.10-P-1004-01K 
5 Remove center diagonal struts (31). Engine 157, 278, 279 in model 217.4  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, center diagonal strut to center diagonal strut *BA61.10-P-1015-01K 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, center diagonal strut to body/reinforcement *BA61.10-P-1014-01K 
6 Remove rear diagonal struts (30). Engine 157, 278, 279 in model 217.4
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, rear diagonal strut to bracket (to stop plate)		 *BA61.10-P-1016-01K 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, rear diagonal strut to body *BA61.10-P-1008-01K 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, rear diagonal strut to bracket/spare wheel well *BA61.10-P-1009-01K 
7.1 Remove screws (14) and remove right diagonal strut (15). Engine 642, 651 in model 222  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, rear diagonal strut to stop plate *BA61.10-P-1010-01K 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, rear diagonal strut to body *BA61.10-P-1008-01K 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, rear diagonal strut to bracket/spare wheel well *BA61.10-P-1009-01K 
7.2 Remove screws (14), remove left and right diagonal strut (15). Engine 157, 276.8, 278, 279 in model 217
Engine 157, 276.8/9, 277, 278, 279 in model 222		  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, rear diagonal strut to stop plate *BA61.10-P-1010-01K 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, rear diagonal strut to body *BA61.10-P-1008-01K 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, rear diagonal strut to bracket/spare wheel well *BA61.10-P-1009-01K 
8.1 Release and disconnect electrical connector of left exhaust gas flap actuator motor (M16/53) and right exhaust gas flap actuator motor (M16/54). Engine 157 in model 217, 222  
8.2 Remove vacuum lines (18) from vacuum cells of rear exhaust system (19) and/or right rear exhaust system (21) and left rear exhaust system (20). Engine 276, 278 in model 217, 222  
9.1 Support rear exhaust system (19) and secure against falling down. Engine 157, 276.8, 278, 279 in model 217  
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
9.2 Support left rear exhaust system (20) and secure against falling down. Engine 157, 276.8/9, 277, 278, 279 in model 222

9.3 Support right rear exhaust system (21) and secure against falling down. Engine 157, 276.8/9, 277, 278, 279 in model 222

9.4 Support rear exhaust system (22) and secure against falling down. Engine 642, 651 in model 222

10.1 Remove screws of clamps (12, 13) at rear exhaust system (19), remove clamps (12, 13) and if necessary seals. Engine 157, 276.8, 278, 279 in model 217
INSTALLATION NOTES Component parts of exhaust system must be aligned so that free of tension before tightening of screw connections.
Otherwise, leaks in exhaust system will occur.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screws, clamps (12, 13) and if necessary seals.

INSTALLATION NOTES Component parts of exhaust system must be aligned so that free of tension before tightening of screw connections.
Otherwise, leaks in exhaust system will occur.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screw, clamp (12) and if necessary seal.

10.4 Remove screw of SCR catalytic converter clamp at rear exhaust system (22), remove clamp and if necessary seal. Engine 642, 651 in model 222
INSTALLATION NOTES Component parts of exhaust system must be aligned so that free of tension before tightening of screw connections.
Otherwise, leaks in exhaust system will occur.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screw, clamp and if necessary seal.

11 Remove screws of brackets of elastomer bearings (7). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screw/bolts.

12.1 Remove rear exhaust system (19) downwards. Engine 157, 276.8, 278, 279 in model 217
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.		  
12.2 Remove left rear exhaust system (20) downwards. Engine 157, 276.8, 278, 279 in model 217
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.		  
12.3 Remove right rear exhaust system (21) downwards. Engine 157, 276.8/9, 277, 278, 279 in model 222  
    IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.  
12.4 Remove rear exhaust system (22) downwards Engine 642, 651 in model 222
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.		  
13 Remove combustion and corrosion residues from separating points.    
14.1 Remove left exhaust gas flap actuator motor (M16/53), right exhaust gas flap actuator motor (M16/54). Engine 157 in model 217, 222
When replacing left,/right rear exhaust system (20, 21).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace nuts.
IMPORTANT For this purpose, unscrew in each case 3 nuts.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION M5X0.8		 *BA00.10-P-1001-04A 
14.2 Remove vacuum cell of left exhaust gas flap and right exhaust gas flap. Engine 278 in model 217, 222
When replacing rear exhaust system (19).		  
INSPECT Check     
15 Check elastomer bearings (7) for damage and or wear. If problems are determined,
↓
Replace elastomer bearings (7).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Wet new elastomer bearings (7) with lubricant.
Lubricant, rubber assembly 1 L		 *BR00.45-Z-1010-06A 
16 Check installation position and for unobstructed movement of all component parts of exhaust system.    
17 Install in the reverse order.    
18 Read out, clear fault memory.

WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
19 Perform engine test run and check leak tightness of the exhaust system.
