Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT Detailed information on the operating state of the transport mode and consumer shutoff is given in the separate function description "Energy management, function".

Panoramic roof roller sun blind general

The roller sun blind protects against solar radiation.

Model 222:

The panoramic sliding sunroof can be shaded with front roller sun blind. The stationary part of the panoramic roof can be darkened with the rear roller sun blind.

The front roller sun blind can only be opened or closed when the panoramic sliding sunroof is closed.

The front roller sun blind can be opened and closed using the roof system switch in the overhead control panel control unit. The rear roller sun blind can be opened and closed using the rear roller sun blind switch in the overhead control panel control unit and additionally with the panoramic sliding sunroof roller sun blind switch in the left rear door switch group or the panoramic sliding sunroof roller sun blind switch in the right rear door switch group.

Model 217:

The panoramic roof can be darkened with roller sun blind. The roller sun blind can be opened and closed using the roof system switch in the overhead control panel control unit.

Overheating protection:

The corresponding roller sun blind motor is protected against overheating by software thermal switch protection switch in the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217). This temperature of the corresponding roller sun blind motor is calculated in consideration of the voltage, current and duration of actuation as well as outside temperature.

The front SAM control unit directly reads in the signal from the outside temperature sensor, calculates the outside temperature and transmits this to the Panoramic sliding roof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217) via the interior CAN.

Recognition of switch signals:

Actuation of the roof system switch or rear roller sun blind (model 222) is clearly recognized only after t = 40 ± 10 ms. The maximum actuation time is t ≥ 20 s. After t = 60 s, the system considers the roof system switched to be jammed. Reactuation (triggered by the roof system switch or rear roller sun blind switch (model 222)) is permissible only after recognition of the non-actuated state.

IMPORTANT The comfort functions are control possibilities allowing central opening and closing together with the side windows from one control point. These comfort functions are described in the partial function "Convenience feature (CF [KFB]), function" within the "Theft protection and lock function description" function.

The electric sliding roof panoramic function comprises the following partial functions:

Function sequence for position monitoring

The position of the corresponding roller sun blind is determined by the Panoramic sliding roof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217) by evaluating the signals from the following sensors:

The Hall sensors are arranged offset by 90° on the axis of the sliding roof motor. The position of the roller sun blind is sensed by counting the Hall sensor pulses.

The zero position (roller sun blind closed) can be set by normalizing.

IMPORTANT If the Hall sensors fail, the roller sun blind can only be actuated in increments of t = 0.3 s.

Additional function requirements for normalizing

Function sequence for normalization

Normalizing is the basis for assigning the momentary position to the positions sensed of the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217) for the roller sun blind in question. For this purpose it is necessary to completely close the corresponding roller sun blinds.

Manually close roller sun blind using roof system switch or rear roller sun blind switch (model 222) until the mechanical end position is reached. Then again actuate roof system switch or rear roller sun blind switch (model 222) for min. t = 1 s. The panoramic sliding sunroof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217) recognized blockage by evaluating the Hall sensor signals and sets the corresponding location counter to zero.

Denormalization is performed under the following conditions:

IMPORTANT The position of the roller sun blind cannot be determined in the denormalized condition. The function is then limited to manual closing or opening. Actuation can only be performed in steps of t = 0, 3 s each.

Function sequence for lockup recognition

If blockage is recognized in the closing direction, the roller sun blind motor is first stopped and then actuated in the opposite direction. If the blockage is recognized in the opening direction, the roller sun blind motor is stopped and no longer actuated.

Additional function requirements for automatic reversing function

Function sequence for automatic reserving function

The automatic reversing function is realized by comparing the current rpm of the panorama sliding roof motor with the rpm recorded during learn-in or adaptation.

If this comparison exceeds a certain limit while closing, the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217) evaluates this as pinching.

IMPORTANT During this teach-in run the roller sun blind in question runs through all closing operations in the normalized state. The panoramic sliding sunroof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217) adapts to changed power consumption resulting from increased friction (e.g. dirt in the mechanical system).

If blockage is detected during an opening procedure, the roller sun blind motor is simply stopped. If pinching is recognized during closing, the roller sun blind motor is first stopped and then reversed (actuated in opposite direction).

With the automatic closing function, the roof is reversed by s = 145 mm.

With the manual closing function, the roof is reversed by s = 20 mm.

additional function requirements for opening/closing of roller sun blinds

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock transmits the circuit status of circuit 15 to the Panoramic sliding roof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217) over the interior CAN.

The front door control units sense the status of the front doors (open or closed) and transmit this via the interior CAN to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217).

IMPORTANT When a front door is opened or closed during the run-on time, this triggers a restart of the run-on time.

Function schematic for opening/closing roller sun blind

The roller sun blind open/close function comprises the following partial functions:

Function sequence for opening/closing front roller sun blind (model 222) or roller sun blind (model 217)

The front roller sun blind (model 222) or roller sun blind (model 217) can be opened and closed manually or automatically. By actuating the roof system switch to the first catch, the front roller sun blind (model 222) or roller sun blind (model 217) can be opened and closed manually as long as the request is present. When the roof system switch is moved beyond the first catch, the front roller sun blind (model 222) or roller sun blind (model 217) is opened or closed automatically and completely.

The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the roof system switch via the roof LIN and transmits it over the interior CAN to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217). The panoramic sliding sunroof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217) actuates the roller sun blind according to the selected actuation direction. The automatic reversing function is active during closing. During manual opening or closing, the roller sun blind motor is actuated until the desired position or end position is reached.

Function sequence for opening/closing rear roller sun blind (model 222)

The roller sun blind can be opened and closed manually or automatically. By actuating the rear roller sun blind switch to the first catch, the rear roller sun blind is opened or closed manually as long as the request is present. The roller sun blind is fully opened or closed automatically by actuating the rear roller sun blind switch beyond the first catch.

By actuating the panoramic sliding sunroof roller sun blind switch in the corresponding rear door switch group, the rear roller sun blind can be opened and closed manually from the rear.

The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the rear roller sun blind switch via the roof LIN and sends it to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit via interior CAN. The corresponding rear door control unit reads in the status of the panoramic sliding sunroof roller sun blind switch in the rear door switch group via the rear roof LIN and sends it to the panoramic sliding sunroof control unit via interior CAN. The panoramic sliding sunroof control unit actuates the roller sun blind motor according to the selected actuation direction. The automatic reversing function is active during closing. During manual opening or closing, the panoramic rear sliding roof roller sun blind motor is actuated until the desired position or end position is reached.

IMPORTANT When the child safety feature is activated, the rear roller sun blind can only be actuated using the rear roller sun blind switch.

Function sequence for roller sun blind memory function

The panoramic sliding sunroof control unit (model 222) or panoramic roller sun blind control unit (model 217) stores the position of the roller sun blind set by manual adjustment after t = 0.5 s as memory position, if it is in the permissible range between the position of the closed roller sun blind and open roller sun blind.

The roller sun blind is moved to the memory position stored last. If the roller sun blind is already behind this position, it is completely opened.

IMPORTANT The memory function is activated via the diagnosis tester.
