with CODE 362 (HERMES LTE)
MODEL ALL (CAR)
with CODE 498 (Japanese version)
Overview
This document contains information on:
- Real-time traffic data
- Integration of apps into navigation
- Local license plate restrictions
- Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS)
General
The telematics services for navigation provide the user with additional information for the navigation system.
Function requirement
- The corresponding services are activated.
Real-time traffic data
From anonymized, cyclic location messages from vehicles, current and accurate real-time traffic data are generated. These are transmitted via the telematics services control unit to the multimedia system controls of the participating vehicles. The received traffic data are used for route calculation. The vehicle requests current traffic data cyclically every 2 minutes.
Additional function requirements:
- Valid subscription
- The vehicle is in a country for which the Service Center offers the traffic data service.
If the user does not want his vehicle to transmit position data for Live Traffic Information, he can have vehicle data transmission deactivated at a Mercedes-Benz Service Center. In this case, he can no longer use the Live Traffic Information service.
Integration of apps into navigation
The multimedia system integrates information from various applications into the navigation system, e.g.:
- Weather
- Local Search
- Parking Space Finder
- Petrol Station Prices
- "send2Car" (transmission of points of interest and routes to the multimedia system control)
Local license plate restrictions
The local license plate restrictions function is currently only available for vehicles with China version.
The Service Center receives information about restrictions for vehicles with certain license plates. Before the restrictions come into force, the Service Center informs the user about the restricted areas and times by means of a push notification or email message.
The restricted areas and the warnings are also displayed in the multimedia system.
Vehicle Information and Communication System
The Vehicle Information and Communication System function is currently only available for vehicles with Japan version. For dynamic route guidance, the Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS) control unit and the Dedicated Short-Range Communications control unit receive various traffic messages. The multimedia system control decodes the traffic messages, which are then saved and processed by the navigation system.
Examples of traffic messages:
- Warning of obstructions
- Information on traffic conditions
- Warning of lane restrictions
- Schematic traffic diagrams
- Messages from catastrophe early warning system (e.g. earthquake and tsunami warnings)
The following control units and the corresponding antennas are installed in the vehicle for the exchange of VICS data in the 5.8 GHz frequency range and the reception of infrared signals.
- Dedicated Short-Range Communications control unit
- Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS) control unit The Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS) control unit is connected directly to the Dedicated Short-Range Communications control unit. An antenna is integrated in the Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS) control unit. The antenna receives VICS information from the VICS beacons installed at the side of the road (transmission masts).
Additional function requirements:
- Circuit 15R on
