- Check all bearing points of the crankshaft (1) for traces of wear, cross scores, notches, blue discoloration, and damage.
For traces of wear, cross scores, notches, blue coloration and damage.

Replace crankshaft (1).
- Check the contact surfaces of the crankshaft bearing shells (6) and thrust surfaces of the thrust plates (7) on the crankcase for traces of wear and damage.

Replace crankcase and crankshaft (1).
- Check the contact surfaces of the crankshaft bearing shells (5) in the crankshafts bearing caps (2) for traces of wear and damage.

Replace crankcase and crankshaft (1).
- Check the contact surface of the crankshaft bearing shell (5) and the thrust surfaces of the thrust plate (4) on the crankshaft bearing cap (3) for traces of wear and damage.

- Measure the basic bore width on the crankshaft bearing cap (3).
If the measured value lies outside the tolerance.

- Measure the crankshaft bearing journal width at the thrust bearing.

If the measured value is outside the tolerance range.

Replace crankshaft (1).
- Install the crankshaft bearing cap (2) without crankshaft bearing shells (5, 6)
.
- Install the crankshaft bearing cap (3) without crankshaft bearing shells (5, 6) and without thrust plates (4, 7)
.
- Measure the basic bore diameter using
a dial indicator and a rapid measuring gauge for inner measurements in the directions A, B, and C.

The measured values lie outside the tolerance.

Replace crankcase and crankshaft (1).
- Remove the crankcase bearing caps (2, 3).
