Rivet Timing Chain - AR05.10-P-7601-02MR
ENGINE 133, 270, 274
The following tooling is required from the
rivet press tool to rivet the timing chain (10): basic carrier (1G), mount A1 (4), thrust piece A2 (5), mount B1 (6) and thrust piece B2 (7).
When carrying out work on the timing case recess, safeguard this with a clean rag to prevent items dropping down. Parts which have fallen into the timing case recess, must be removed.
- Insert riveted link (10N) in thrust piece A2 (5).
Ensure correct seating of the riveted link (10N) in thrust piece A2 (5).
- Insert thrust piece A2 (5) with riveted link (10N) in thrust spindle (1D) of the basic carrier (1G).
After insertion of the thrust piece A2 (5) in the thrust spindle (1D) of the basic carrier (1G), check the riveted link (10N) for correct seating in the thrust piece A2 (5).
- Place rear chain link plate (10L) of the timing chain (10) in mount A1 (4).
Mount A1 (4) not yet inserted in the basic carrier (1G).
Only place timing chain (10) in mount A1 (4) as far as necessary until the middle link plate (10M) of the timing chain (10) can be mounted.
- Mount middle link plate (10M).
- Insert front chain link plate (10G) for the open timing chain (10) in the mount A1 (4).
The chain link plates (10G, 10L) and the middle link plate (10M) are fixed and guided by sprung pins (4S) in the mount A1 (4).
- Insert mount A1 (4) with engaged timing chain (10) in the basic carrier (1G).
Ensure correct seating of the timing chain (10) in the mount A1 (4) and the mount A1 (4) in the basic carrier (1G).
- Place the riveted link (10N) or thrust piece A2 (5) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) on the basic carrier (1G) on the timing chain (10) and check for correct positioning.
- Press in the riveted link (10N) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) into the timing chain (10).
In this way the spring-loaded pins (4S) are pushed back into the mount A1 (4).
- Turn back thrust spindle (1D) on basic carrier (1G).
- Detach basic carrier (1G) together with mount A1 (4) and thrust piece A2 (5) from timing chain (10).
- Modify grab handle (1H) for basic carrier (1G).
The grab handle (1H) of the basic carrier (1G) must be modified to avoid damage to the cylinder head and timing assembly.
- Insert outer chain link plate (10A) for timing chain (10) in the thrust piece A2 (5).
Check for correct seating of the outer chain link plate (10A) of the timing chain (10) in thrust piece A2 (5).
- Insert thrust piece A2 (5) with outer chain link plate (10A) in thrust spindle (1D) of the basic carrier (1G).
Ensure correct seating of the outer chain link plate (10A) in thrust piece A2 (5).
- Insert mount B1 (6) in basic carrier (1G).
Check mount B1 (6) for correct seating in basic carrier (1G).
- Insert timing chain (10) in mount B1 (6) and basic carrier (1G).
The open ends of the riveted link (10N) must point towards the thrust piece A2 (5).
Ensure correct positioning of the timing chain (10) in the mount B1 (6).
- Place the outer chain link plate (10A) or thrust piece A2 (5) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) on the basic carrier (1G) on the timing chain (10) and check for correct positioning.
- Press outer chain link plate (10A) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) onto the timing chain (10).
The riveted link (10N) must still be able to move after pressing on the outer chain link plate (10A).
- Turn back thrust spindle (1D) in basic carrier (1G).
The thrust spindle (1D) in basic carrier (1G) must be turned back until the thrust piece A2 (5) can be removed.
- Remove thrust piece A2 (5) from the thrust spindle (1D) of the basic carrier (1G).
- Insert riveting die B2 (7) in the thrust spindle (1D) of the basic carrier (1G).
- Lay riveting die B2 (7) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) on the riveted link (10N) and check for its correct position.
Ensure correct positioning of the timing chain (10) in the mount B1 (6).
- Rivet the riveted link (10N) through actuation of the thrust spindle (1D) using the riveting die B2 (7).
Using the riveting die B2 (7) both pins (10B) of the riveted link (10N) can be riveted once.
- Detach basic carrier (1G) together with mount B1 (6) and riveting die B2 (7) from timing chain (10).
- Check riveting (see arrows) on riveted link (10N) and rerivet if necessary.
The pins (10B) above on the riveted link (10N) show the unrivetted condition, whereby the pins (10B) below (see arrows) show the riveted condition.
If re-riveting is required, the operation steps from operation step 20 must be repeated.
