Determine Engine Oil Consumption - AR18.00-P-0025-05MM

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC300, 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC300, 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC300, 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC350e, and 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Engine 152.9, 157, 176, 177, 178, 276, 277, 278, 279

Engine 254.9, 256.9

Engine 264

Engine 271, 272, 642, 646, 651

Weigh engine oil

  1. Drain engine oil and catch with suitable oil container.
  2. Place oil reservoir on scale and weigh.
  3. Note weight of engine oil in kilograms and the kilometer reading for the vehicle.
  4. Pour engine oil into the engine.

    Determine oil consumption

  5. Perform measurement run.

IMPORTANT Measurement distance of measuring drive by workshop personnel is 250 km under consideration of customer's vehicle operating conditions.

Measurement distance of measuring drive by customer is 1, 000 km.

  6. Drain engine oil and catch with suitable oil container.

NOTES Perform the new measurement at the location of the first oil measurement and using the same oil container.

    Measurement errors occur otherwise.

  7. Place oil reservoir on scale and weigh.
  8. Note weight of engine oil in kilograms and the kilometer reading for the vehicle.
  9. Calculate the difference in weight of the engine oil.

IMPORTANT Calculate the weight difference by subtracting the engine oil weight before the measuring drive from the engine oil weight after the measuring drive.

  10. Calculate measurement distance.

IMPORTANT Calculate the measurement distance by subtracting the kilometer reading before the measuring drive from the kilometer reading after the measuring drive.

Calculation of oil consumption over 1, 000 km:

    Weight difference in kilograms x 1, 000

    ---------------------------- = oil

    consumption in liters over 1, 000 km 1, 234 km x 0.85 kg/l

    Example:

    1.2 kg x 1, 000

    -------------------------- = 1.14 l/1, 000 km

Measurement distance in kilometers x oil density in kg/l
