Disassemble, Assemble Planetary Gear System - AR28.50-P-1003LWX

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

DISASSEMBLING Disassemble     
1 Disassemble transfer case   AR28.10-P-1004LWX 
2 Position planetary gear set (5) on workshop press IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

3 Place drift (2) centrally on planetary gear set (5) SPECIAL TOOL Drift Fig 1
4 Align planetary gear set (5) centrally under piston (1)    
5 Apply pressure to drift (2) until retaining ring (3) can be removed IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

6 Remove retaining ring (3) from planetary gear set (5)    
7 Mark direction of installation on retaining ring (3)    
8 Drain pressure on workshop press IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

9 Remove drift (2) and retaining ring (3) SPECIAL TOOL Drift Fig 1
10 Remove washer (4) from planetary gear set (5)    
11 Mark installation position on washer (4)    
12 Remove clutch plates and intermediate plates from planetary gear set (5)    
ASSEMBLING Assemble     
13 Install new clutch plates and new intermediate plates in planetary gear set (5)    
14 Install washer (4) in planetary gear set (5) IMPORTANT Pay attention to installation position.  
15 Place drift (2) centrally on planetary gear set (5) SPECIAL TOOL Drift Fig 1
16 Align planetary gear set (5) centrally under piston (1) using centered drift (2) SPECIAL TOOL Drift Fig 1
17 Place retaining ring (3) loosely on planetary gear set (5) IMPORTANT Note direction of installation.  
18 Apply pressure to drift (2) until retaining ring (3) can be installed IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

19 Install retaining ring (3) IMPORTANT Note direction of installation.  
20 Drain pressure on workshop press IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

21 Remove drift (2) SPECIAL TOOL Drift Fig 1
22 Remove planetary gear set (5) from workshop press IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

23 Assemble transfer case   AR28.10-P-1004LWX
