Setting the circumferential backlash
- Remove locking pin (10).
When replacing balance shaft housing (1).
- Move balance shaft housing (1) to basic position; for this purpose, press balance shaft housing (1) in direction of vehicle rear (arrow K) until basic position is reached.
- Further rotate engine at center bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation through 90°.
Marking on left spur gear (3L) of balance shaft housing (1) points at an angle in direction of front end.
Attach dial indicator (03) together with
dial indicator holder (02) to crankcase (01).
Remove magnet base of
dial indicator holder (02) before assembly on crankcase (01) so that
dial indicator holder (02) can be mounted directly on crankcase (01). To exclude measuring errors, ball-type measuring tip of
dial indicator (03) must be removed and a flat measuring tip installed or
dial indicator (03) must be used without a measuring tip.
Position dial indicator (03) tangentially to toothing on left spur gear (3L) of balance shaft housing (1) and move
dial indicator (03) to zero position.
Check pin of
dial indicator (03) must correctly stand up on a tooth in front area of left spur gear (3L) in direction of transmission. Set zero position of
dial indicator (03) so that right spur gear (3R) of balance shaft housing (1) is slightly turned against direction of engine rotation.
- Measure torsioning play of balance shaft housing (1) using
dial indicator (03)
To measure the torsioning play, turn right spur gear (3R) of balance shaft housing (1) in direction of engine rotation and read off value from
dial indicator (03).
- Set torsioning play of balance shaft housing (1)
If torsioning play of balance shaft housing (1) is set.
If torsioning play of balance shaft housing (1) is too small, press balance shaft housing (1) in direction of front end (arrow G). If torsioning play of balance shaft housing (1) is too large, press balance shaft housing (1) in direction of vehicle rear (arrow K).
- Tighten down screw/bolts (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) in alphabetic sequence with a first and second torque stage
.
- Check torsioning play of balance shaft housing (1) using
dial indicator (03)
If value is not OK
↓
Repeat setting and replace screw/bolts (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d).
- Tighten down screw/bolts (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) in alphabetic sequence with a third and fourth torque stage
.
