Supplemental Restraint System Control Unit, Component Description - GF91.60-P-4080RD
Model 172.4
Location
The supplemental restraint system control unit is located on the transmission tunnel.
Task
The supplemental restraint system control unit has the following tasks:
- Read in sensors and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
- Transmitting signals
Model 172.4 as of 12/1/13
with code 494 (US version)
An accident data recorder is integrated in the supplemental restraint system control unit, which records relevant data before, during and after an accident. The data stored can be used to trace back the course of the accident.
Read in sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Seat occupied recognition LIN (LIN E2)
- Chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 29.02.2016) or chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) (as of 01.03.2016)
Direct line
The signals from the following sensors are read in via direct lines:
- Pedestrian protection Hall sensor + ATA [EDW] engine hood switch (A38/1) (up to 31.05.2015 with code U60 (Active engine hood (Pedestrian protection)))
- Left sidebag sensor (A53)
- Right sidebag sensor (A54)
- Left frontal acceleration sensor (B48/1)
- Right frontal acceleration sensor (B48/2)
- Left door pressure sensor (B48/7)
- Right door pressure sensor (B48/8)
- Pedestrian protection Hall sensor (B100) (up to 31.05.2015 with code U60 (Active engine hood (Pedestrian protection)))
- Left front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (B151/1) (with CODE U60 (Active engine hood (pedestrian protection)))
- Center front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (B151/2) (up to 31.10.2011 with code U60 (Active engine hood (pedestrian protection)))
- Right front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (B151/3) (with CODE U60 (Active engine hood (pedestrian protection)))
- Driver belt buckle restraint system switch (S68/3)
- Front passenger belt buckle restraint system switch (S68/4)
Seat occupied recognition LIN
The supplemental restraint system control unit reads in information on the seat occupancy recognition from the following components over seat occupancy LIN:
- Front passenger seat occupied recognition and ACSR [AKSE] (B48) (with CODE U18 (Automatic child seat recognition, ACSR [AKSE]))
- Weight sensing system (WSS) control unit (N110) (with CODE U10 (Automatic front passenger airbag shutoff))
Chassis CAN (up to 29.02.2016) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 01.03.2016)
The supplemental restraint system control unit reads in the following signals, among other things, via chassis CAN (up to 29.02.2016) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 01.03.2016):
- Status of doors
- Status of central locking
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The following components are actuated via direct lines:
- Pyrofuse 88 (F32/5f88) (except code B03 (ECO start/stop function))
- Pyrofuse (F63) (with code B03 (ECO start/stop function))
- Driver emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/1) (model 172.466/475 with code 494 (USA version) or code 460 (Canada version))
- Front passenger emergency tensioning retractor squib (R12/2) (model 172.466/475 with code 494 (USA version) or code 460 (Canada version))
- Front passenger airbag squib 1 (R12/4)
- Front passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5)
- Driver sidebag squib (R12/9)
- Front passenger sidebag squib (R12/10)
- Driver airbag squib 1 (R12/13)
- Driver airbag squib 2 (R12/14)
- Front passenger kneebag squib (R12/24) (with CODE 294 (Kneebag))
