(Component Description For Radar Sensors Control Unit - GF30.30-P-3301RD)
Model 172.4
up to model year 2016
with code 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS)
Show on model 172.4
Location
The radar sensors control unit is fastened to the footrest in the front passenger footwell.
Tasks
The radar sensors control unit is the unit that evaluates the short range radar and the long range radar.
To do this the radar sensors control unit fulfills the following tasks:
- Reading in sensors and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Controlling functions
- Output of signals
Reading in sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
- Vehicle dynamics CAN (CAN H)
- Sensor CAN (CAN S)
Chassis CAN
As an example, the radar sensors control unit reads in the following information via the chassis CAN:
- Accelerator pedal position
- Gear range engaged
- Service brake, status
- Yawing moment
- Wheel speeds and wheel rotation direction
- Status information from the driver assist or driving safety system
- Parking brake status
- Steering wheel angle
- Position data from navigation (for the Western Europe version)
- Driver request through the cruise control lever (S40/4)
- Driver request via menu settings in the instrument cluster (A1)
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Vehicle dynamics CAN
The radar sensors control unit reads in the signals from the following assembly part via dynamics CAN:
- DISTRONIC electric controller unit (A89)
- Long range radar data
- Diagnostic data from long range radar
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Sensor CAN
The radar sensors control unit reads in the signals of the following components via sensor CAN:
- Left front bumper DISTRONIC (DTR) sensor (B29/2)
- Right front bumper DISTRONIC (DTR) sensor (B29/3)
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the integrated microprocessors and the relevant assembly parts are then actuated.
Due to the high performance of the radar sensors control unit, it is equipped with two microprocessors (each with a clock frequency of 40 MHz).
Controlling functions
The radar sensors control unit actuates the following functions:
- Variable Speedtronic (speed limiter) (without code (494) USA version)
- Permanent Speed Limiter (winter tires)
- DISTRONIC PLUS
- Automatic deactivation of the radar sensor system (for the Western European version)
Output of signals
The signals are issued over the following connections:
- Chassis CAN
- Vehicle dynamics CAN
- Sensor CAN
Chassis CAN
For code 233 (DISTRONIC PLUS) the radar sensors control unit transmits the following signals via the chassis CAN:
- Request to increase engine torque
- Request to reduce engine torque
- Limit gear range request
- Raise gear range request
- Reduce gear range request
- Request to issue acoustic warnings
- Request to issue system or warning messages
- Request for PRE-SAFE measures
Braking requests
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Vehicle dynamics CAN
As an example the radar sensors control unit transmits the following signals via the vehicle dynamics CAN:
- Radar requirements of the long range radar (vehicle/operation-specific data
- Brake torque requests from the following systems:
- CRUISE CONTROL
- DISTRONIC PLUS
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Sensor CAN
The radar sensors control unit transmits the following signals via the sensor CAN:
- Radar requirements of the short range radar (vehicle/operation-specific data)
- Diagnosis request
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
