  Risk of explosion  from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses.
Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

5 Connect battery charger

6 Switch ignition lock to position "1" (circuit 15R)    
7 Switch on COMAND controller unit    
8 Remove CDs or DVDs from the COMAND disc drive For update with master DVD.

9.1 Insert the master DVD and update map data Model 117, 156, 164, 166, 169, 172, 176, 190, 197, 204, 205, 207, 212, 216, 217, 218, 221, 222, 231, 242, 245, 246, 251, 292, 463
For update with master DVD.
IMPORTANT Enter the activation code provided in VeDoc and start with the update.
IMPORTANT Any error messages that may be displayed should be ignored. The update process can take a while to complete. The progress bar indicates how much has been completed. If there are multiple master DVDs, follow the instructions on the COMAND display.
 
9.2 Start the menu from the master USB stick and update the map data Model 117, 156, 166, 172, 176, 190, 204, 205, 207, 212, 217, 218, 222, 231, 242, 246, 292, 463
For update with master USB stick (as from NTG 4.5).
IMPORTANT Enter the activation code provided in VeDoc and start with the update.
IMPORTANT The update process can take a while to complete. The progress bar indicates how much has been completed.
 
10.1 Remove all master DVDs from the vehicle and insert the previously removed CDs or DVDs Model 117, 156, 164, 166, 169, 172, 176, 190, 197, 204, 205, 207, 212, 216, 217, 218, 221, 222, 231, 242, 245, 246, 251, 292, 463
After updating with master DVD.
 
10.2 Remove USB stick from the front USB connections Model 117, 156, 166, 172, 176, 190, 204, 205, 207, 212, 217, 218, 222, 231, 242, 246, 292, 463
After updating with master USB stick (as from NTG 4.5).
 
11 Switch off COMAND control unit    
12 Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key

13 Switch off and disconnect charger

IMPORTANT Switch off the charger before disconnecting it.
