Pedestrian Protection, Basic Function - GF91.60-P-9906A

MODEL ALL (CAR) with CODE U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection))

General

Reducing the severity of an accident is particularly important in the case of a collision with weaker road users e.g pedestrians because they do not have their own "crumple zone". The pedestrian protection includes the following measures, which can mitigate the consequences of an accident:

Function requirements

Pedestrian protection

The sensors in the front bumper detect a collision with pedestrians or other objects. The SRS evaluates the sensor signals and decides whether to trigger the pedestrian protection. When the pedestrian protection is triggered, the hood is raised in the area of the A-pillars by two raising devices. The space between the hood and the component parts that lie below is enlarged. The additional deformation space gained partly absorbs the impact energy in a collision and can therefore reduce the extent of injuries.

IMPORTANT The pedestrian protection may be actuated by mistake in a collision with other objects (e.g poles, guide posts or thick branches).

IMPORTANT Raising the engine hood has no further effects on the triggering behavior of the supplemental restraint system.
