General
If an accident happens, the Supplemental Restraint System starts various functions that, e.g. reduce a fire hazard or make it easier to rescue vehicle occupants.
Function requirement

| Switch on hazard warning system | Warn other road users |
| Switch on interior illumination | Make orientation in the vehicle easier for vehicle occupants or persons rendering assistance |
| Switch on ambient lighting (vehicles with ambient lighting) The ambient lighting lights up red at full brightness. | Alert persons in the area about the given situation |
| Open central locking | Provide access to vehicle occupants, auxiliary material and the QR code on the fuel filler flap |
| Open side window | To extract any smoke particles generated by the restraint equipment |
| Switch off engine (depending on type of accident and impact severity) | Reduce fire hazard |
| Shutoff air conditioning system | Prevent any ingress of noxious gases, reduce fire hazard |
| Trigger pyrofuse (hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles or vehicles with 48 V technology) | Reduce fire hazard |
| Switch off high-voltage components (hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles) | Reduce fire hazard |
| Switch off 48 V components (vehicles with 48 V technology) | Reduce fire hazard |
| Switch off stationary heater (vehicles with stationary heater) | Reduce fire hazard |
| Automatic emergency call (vehicles with HERMES) | Notify rescue services as quickly as possible |
| Crash-active easy exit feature (vehicles with seat adjustment with memory function) The electrically adjustable steering column is moved upwards. |
