	Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension	Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. 	Remove/install
1	Remove cover below rear axle	MODEL 242 with ENGINE 780
1	Remove cover below rear axle		AR61.30-P-1001NKB
2	Dismantle brake caliper, place to one side and fix in place		AR42.10-P-0080NKB
3	Unclip cover (17) and remove	Ensure that cover (17) is properly seated.
4	Detach damper from spring control arm and push towards steering knuckle	MODEL 117, 156, 176, 242 MODEL 246 without CODE 486 (Sports suspension)

5	Insert upper clamping plate (01) into rear axle spring (1)	Clamping plates	Fig 4
6	Insert tensioning device (02) with lower clamping plate (03) into rear axle spring (1) and lock upper clamping plate (01)	Insert the clamping plates (01, 03) in such a way that as many spring coils as possible can be pre-compressed.

7	Mark installation position of rear axle spring (1) relative to upper clamping plate (01) using adhesive tape (arrows, see Fig 2)	Do not use a touch-up paint pen because the rear axle spring (1) is color-coded.
8	Clamp rear axle spring (1) using clamping plates (01, 03) and tensioning device (02) and remove rear spring (1) from rear axle	Do not use an impact wrench.

9	Relieve tension of removed rear axle spring (1) using tensioning device (02) and clamping plates (01, 03), remove rear axle spring (1)	When replacing the rear axle spring (1) the identification must be transferred using adhesive tape (arrows, see Fig 2) to the new rear axle spring (1).

10	Detach upper spring seat (2) and lower spring seat (3) and check for signs of damage, replace if necessary	The spring seats (2, 3) must be correctly seated on the rear axle spring (1). Note the guides (arrows, see Fig 3) on spring seats (2, 3).
11	Install in the reverse order
	Check
12	Check rear axle spring (1) for signs of paint damage in contact area of clamping plates (01, 03)	When reinstalling the rear axle spring (1). Only repair paint damage using a black touchup paint pen. Otherwise it could lead to confusion with the color marking of the rear axle springs (1).
13	Check headlamp adjustment and correct if necessary
