Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.		 AS00.40-Z-0001-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.		 AS00.00-Z-0017-01A
  Notes on avoiding damage through contamination and foreign objects   AH00.00-P-5000-01A
  Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process   AH00.00-P-0020-01A
  Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove propeller shaft from front axle differential (1). Model 213.061/261, 238.361/461 with engine 256 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0070MSA
Model 213.088/089/288/289 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0070MNE
Model 213 (except 213.061/088/089/261/288/289), 238 (except 238.361/461) with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0070OLC
2 Remove drain screw and drain hypoid gear oil from front axle differential (1) and collect with a suitable container. Model 213, 238 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
With VAG 160		 AR33.25-P-0300-01LWX 
3 Remove rack-and-pinion steering. Model 213 with transmission 725.0
with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)		 AR46.20-P-0600LW
Model 238 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR46.20-P-0600LWO
4 Remove right front axle shaft.   AR33.30-P-0620LW 
5 Remove intermediate shaft.   AR33.30-P-0625LWX 
6 Remove screws (2, 3a, 3b, 3c) and place front axle differential (1) onto front axle.    
7 Remove support (4).    
8 Remove front axle differential (1) downwards.    
9 Check that pilot bushing in oil pan is correctly seated. If there is a problem,
↓
replace pilot bushing.		  
10 Remove radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r). NOTES
Do not damage seat of radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r).
Otherwise, the front axle differential (1) will be leaky.
IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Connect the internal extractor and SPECIAL TOOL impact extractor to the threaded rod of the SPECIAL TOOL extraction tool.

11 Check seat of radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r) for damage and galling. If there is a problem,
↓
replace front axle differential (1).		  
INSTALLING Install     
12 Coat sealing lips of new radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r) with transmission oil.    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Universal hypoid gear oils (specification 235.7)   BB00.40-P-0235-07A
13 Install new radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r) with drift. SPECIAL TOOL VAG 175 Drift Fig 5

14 Position front axle differential (1) on front axle.    
15 Install support (4). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar bolt, support to oil pan *BA33.30-P-1011-03G 
16 Attach front axle differential (1) to support (4).   AR33.30-P-0525-06AVG 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar bolt, front axle differential to support/oil pan *BA33.30-P-1006-03G 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Collar bolt, front axle gear to engine support *BA33.30-P-1007-03G 
17 Screw drain screw into front axle differential (1). With VAG 175 IMPORTANT Replace seal.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Front axle transmission drain screw		 *BA33.30-P-1008-03G 
18.1 Fill front axle transmission (1) with hypoid gear oil through the front axle shaft opening. With VAG 175
FLUID SPECIFICATION Hypoid gear oil		 *BF33.30-P-1001-03F 
SPECIAL TOOL Hand pump Fig 2
18.2 Fill front axle differential (1) via opening of filling screw with hypoid gear oil. With VAG 160 AR33.25-P-0300-01LWX 
Quick-acting adhesive Omnifit 100H (50 g) *BR00.45-Z-1110-02A 
Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Front axle transmission drain screw *BA33.30-P-1008-03G 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Front axle transmission filling screw *BA33.30-P-1014-03G 
FLUID SPECIFICATION Hypoid gear oil *BF33.30-P-1001-03F 
SPECIAL TOOL Hand pump Fig 2
19 Install intermediate shaft.   AR33.30-P-0625LWX 
20 Install right front axle shaft.   AR33.30-P-0620LW 
21 Install rack-and-pinion steering. Model 213 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR46.20-P-0600LW
    Model 238 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR46.20-P-0600LWO
22 Install propeller shaft onto front axle differential (1). Model 213.061/261, 238.361/461 with engine 256 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0070MSA
Model 213.088/089/288/289 with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0070MNE
Model 213 (except 213.061/088/089/261/288/289), 238 (except 238.361/461) with transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
IMPORTANT Only install center and rear lower rear engine compartment paneling again after leak test.		 AR41.10-P-0070OLC
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
23 Perform engine test run while checking front axle differential (1) for leak tightness and proper operation.    
24 Install center and rear lower engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105LWE
