  Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m)    
2 Release left underfloor paneling in area of electrical connections   AR61.30-P-1001LWE
3 Release and disconnect electrical connection of NOx sensor control unit (31) upstream of NOx storage catalytic converter    
4 Unscrew nuts for NOx sensor control unit (31)    
5 Unclip electrical line from holder    
6 Remove NOx sensor (31) upstream of NOx storage catalytic converter SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench bit Fig 1
7 Cover probe tip of the NOx sensor (31) upstream of NOx storage catalytic converter with protective cover When reusing the NOx sensor (31).  
    SPECIAL TOOL Set of protective caps Fig 2
8 Close off threaded hole of the NOx sensor (31) upstream of NOx storage catalytic converter using a suitable stop plug SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 3
9 Check NOx sensor (31) using an electrical line and control unit For damage

Replace NOx sensor (31).
 
INSTALLING Install     
10 Remove protective cover from probe tip of NOx sensor (31) When reusing the NOx sensor (31).  
    SPECIAL TOOL Set of protective caps Fig 2
11 Remove the stop plug from the threaded hole of the NOx sensor (31) SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 3
12 Coat thread of NOx sensor (31) with heat-resistant lubricant When reusing the NOx sensor (31).
Paste, hot lubrication 1 kg, DBL 6879.20
*BR00.45-Z-1005-06A 
13 Position NOx sensor (31) and screw in TORQUE SPECIFICATION NOx sensor to exhaust pipe *BA07.04-P-1001-01E 
    SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench bit Fig 1
14 Screw on nuts for NOx sensor control unit (31)    
15 Clip electrical line into holder    
16 Put together electrical connection of NOx sensor control unit (31) and lock    
17 Fasten the left underfloor paneling   AR61.30-P-1001LWE
  Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
18 Perform an engine test run and check exhaust system for leaktightness
