REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Adjust driver's side and front passenger side front seat into the end position toward the rear.    
2 Remove steering column module.   AR54.25-P-2802LW
3 Remove cover under driver's side instrument panel.   AR68.10-P-1500LW 
4 Remove trim from the left and right A-pillar.   AR68.30-P-4050LW 
5 Remove left air vent.   AR83.10-P-4501LW
6 Remove right air vent.   AR83.10-P-4502LW
7 Remove instrument cluster. Model 205
with code 464 (Full display digital instrument cluster)

12 Remove HERMES control unit. Model 205

13 Remove glove compartment.   AR68.10-P-1400LW
14 Release seal (2) in the area of the cover (3).    
15 Remove cover (3) from the instrument panel (1). SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 1
16 Unclip cover (4) from the head-up display (A40/12) and remove (arrow A). Model 205, 253

NOTES Cover head-up display (A40/12) with new soft rag (e.g. polishing cloth).
Otherwise head-up display (A40/12) can be scratched.
 
18 Remove screws (5) from the instrument panel (1).    
19 Remove screw (30) from the front passenger airbag (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, front passenger airbag unit to crossmember *BA91.60-P-1002-01O 
20.1 Unclip left rear passenger compartment air duct (8) and right rear passenger compartment air duct (9) from the instrument panel (1) (arrows B). Model 205 with transmission 722, 724, 725

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Ensure that left rear air duct (8) and right rear air duct (9) are seated correctly on air conditioner housing (10).
 
20.2 Unhook left rear passenger compartment air duct (28) and right rear passenger compartment air duct (29) from the instrument panel (1) (arrows F). Model 205, 253 with transmission 716
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Hook left rear air duct (28) and right rear air duct (29) into instrument panel (1) and (arrows F) and ensure that it is seated correctly on air conditioner housing (10).
 
21 Unclip wiring harness from the instrument panel (1) (arrow C). SPECIAL TOOL Dismantling tool Fig 3
22 Release left fuse and relay module (K40/6) from the retaining tabs (11) and swivel out of the instrument panel (1) (arrow D). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Insert left fuse and relay module (K40/6) at bottom into instrument panel (1).  
23 Release the fuse holder (12) from the left fuse and relay module (K40/6) (arrows E) and detach.    
24 Detach fuse holder (13) from the left fuse and relay module (K40/6).    
25 Disconnect electrical connector (14) from the left fuse and relay module (K40/6).    
26 Remove insulation mat from behind the left fuse and relay module (K40/6).    
27 Disconnect electrical connector (16) from the exterior lights switch (S1).    
28 Disconnect electrical connector (15) from the driver's side instrument panel button group (S6/1). Model 205, 253

29 Disconnect electrical connector (17) from the electric parking brake switch (S76/15).    
30 Disconnect electrical connector (18) from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73). Model 205

31 Extend electric line (19) and wiring harness (20) on the left side out of the instrument panel (1).    
32 Extend wiring harnesses (21, 22) in area of the steering column out of the instrument panel (1).    
33 Unhook Bluetooth® antenna (A2/91) and electric line (25) from the instrument panel (1).    
34 Remove insulation mats in the area of the center console.    
35 Guide wiring harnesses (23, 24) in the area of the center console out of the instrument panel (1).    
36 Guide electric lines (26) in the top area out of the instrument panel (1).    
37 Guide electric line (27) at the top out of the instrument panel (1).    
38 Pull instrument panel (1) toward the rear until the electrical connectors (6) on the front passenger airbag (7) are accessible. IMPORTANT Helper required.  
39 Disconnect electrical connectors (6) on the front passenger airbag (7). SPECIAL TOOL Removal lever Fig 2
40 Remove instrument panel (1) and remove via the front passenger side. IMPORTANT Helper required.  
41 Install in the reverse order.
