Function requirements, general
- No overvoltage or undervoltage
- "Headlamp switch-off delay" and "locator lighting" functions activated in head unit (A26/17)
- Rain/light sensor (B38/2) signals "Darkness detected"
- Exterior lights switch (S1) in auto on/off driving lights position
The head unit sends the request of the "Headlamp switch-off delay" function via the user interface CAN (CAN HMI), AMG gateway control unit (N93/9), and interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
The ambient brightness is sensed by the rain and light sensor. The rain/light sensor sends information on the ambient brightness (twilight level) via the wiper/inside rear-view mirror LIN (LIN 2) to the front SAM control unit.
The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch directly.
Headlamp switch-off delay, general
The headlamp switch-off delay is used for safely leaving and finding the vehicle in darkness.
The headlamp switch-off delay duration can be configured in the head unit between t = 0 and 60 s in 15-second increments.
The following light functions are activated here:
- Standing/parking lights actuation
Detailed information about the standing/parking lights actuation is available in a separate document.
The left parking light and daytime running light (E1e13) and right parking light and daytime running light (E2e13) illuminate brighter during the headlamp switch-off delay than during the standing/parking lights actuation.
- Ambient illumination via left outside mirror ambient lamp (M21/1e1) in left outside mirror (M21/1) and right outside mirror ambient lamp (M21/2e1) in right outside mirror (M21/2)
The outside mirror ambient lamps are only actuated when the outside mirrors are completely folded out.
The headlamp switch-off delay function encompasses the following subfunctions:
- Headlamp switch-off delay function sequence
- Locator lighting function sequence
The headlamp switch-off delay and locator lighting functions operate in parallel if necessary. An active headlamp switch-off delay function is not terminated by a requested locator lighting function and vice versa.
Headlamp switch-off delay function sequence
The headlamp switch-off delay function is activated by the driver after the engine has been switched off (change in circuit status from circuit 15 ON to circuit 15R ON) for the configured period of time. The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the status of circuit 15 to the front SAM control unit via interior CAN.
The front SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation. At the same time, the front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the following control units:
- Left door control unit (N69/1)
- Right door control unit (N69/2),
The left door control unit directly actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp. The right door control unit directly actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp.
The function starts again by opening a vehicle door. If all vehicle doors are closed again, the function is restarted.
The status of the doors is sent by the left door control unit and right door control unit via the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.
The active headlamp switch-off delay is interrupted when circuit 15 is switched on or when an anti-theft alarm system alarm (ATA alarm) (with code 551 (Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]))) is triggered.
Locator lighting function sequence
When unlocking the vehicle, the ambient illumination is switched on for a period of t = 40 s (time for the automatic relocking).
The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of the central locking (CL [ZV]) to the front SAM control unit via interior CAN.
The front SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation. At the same time, the front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the following control units:
- Left door control unit
- Right door control unit
The left door control unit directly actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp. The right door control unit directly actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp.
If an engine start is detected within t = 40 s, a change is made from the locator lighting to the auto on/off driving lights function. Detailed information on the auto on/off driving lights is available in the "Driving lights actuation function" subfunction.
