Function requirements, general

The electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) transmits the circuit status c. 15 via the interior CAN (CAN B).
Function sequence for emergency light actuation
The emergency light actuation ensures operation of the minimum exterior lighting in the event of failure of individual system components for the vehicle's exterior lights.
If the interior CAN experiences a malfunction, the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) and rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) activate a software emergency light.
The front SAM control unit activates the standing lights and low beams.
The rear SAM control unit activates the taillight and brake light (depending on the status of circuit 54).
If the chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) experiences a malfunction, the left headlamp control unit (E1n9) and right headlamp control unit (E2n9) activate a software emergency light.
The headlamp control units activate the standing lights and the low beams.
In case of failure of the rain/light sensor (B38/2) or in case of a communication failure with the rain/light sensor, the front SAM control unit assumes that it is "night" and the auto on/off driving lights are activated.
